I seem to remember reading somewhere that the stylus assembly for my A&R P77 is the same/similar to thatof other japanese cartridges, including a certain Shelter MM model along with a Sumiko and others. Apparently there is/was a Jico SAS tip for them. Does anyone know if it was the 201?
Have gone back to my threadbare felt on its own. Just more relaxed . Doubtless down to not having adjusted my arm height and I can’t be bothered to take my Linn out of its cubby hole hiding place to be able to do it properly with the acrylic levelling block. I’m getting a bit too old for this lark.
If anyone already has an A&RP77 and fancies a rather special hyper elliptical retip and suspension mod (in my opinion an improvement on the original "profile" job), I have collected 3 of them to see me out and can point you in the right direction, in Italy to be more precise.
Thanks Andy,
I had just read somewhere that the valve (ECC83 or 88 ????) in my Puresound phono was good for around 200pF Miller effect. I had no idea it depended on the valve concerned nor that this effect affected SS phono stages as well.
I would urge all readers to ignore any "...
Sorry to be repetitive but if you do go back to MM, don’t forget to adjust the capacitance on the input accordingly to suit the cartridge. It can really define things. I have just reduced the capacitance on my phonoinput after learning that in the case of valve phonos, the Miller effect of the...
Cracked it. I shall connect one connector of my extension cable as common or Mono and leave the phones cable stereo. That way I can choose by using or not the extension.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I shall wire the plug as if they were Mono maybe. Dunno. Although as they are the effect is as if there is no hard right info , just centred and left. It’s a bit weird but not objectionable. Of course I am missingthe hard right bits, hence thinking of using them with a...
I guess no one remembers the 531s. I actually dug mine out todayandthey are still the most musically involving speakers I have ever heard. Or maybe Ihave the worst room for speakers in the world.Anyone fancy a Sugden A21se andsome wd25Tex floorstanders, going cheap ?
Thanks big John. I have just trimmed the edges down to fit inside the platter lip and placed 9 DiALL bumpers ( sort of star of david arrangement nearer the edges and an isosceles triangle in the middle. Not very scientifically. It deffo seems to improve on my felt for deep, deep detail...
I went back to my A&R P77 3 years ago on my lp12 and Ittok LVIII when I decided against retipping my Troika again. Fortunately I had sent my ancient Rega Elys (bentcantilever) and my P77 (no cantilever) to be “looked at” as a previsionary measure to tide me over while the Troika was away and...
Oh dear,
My Linn felt is the original from 1981 so perhaps you can imagine how thin it is but up to nowhad never comeacross anything that improved on it.
I have just cut up a spare sink mat into a rough circle, removing just the centre disc to accomodate the spindle ; it overlaps the platter...
I used to love my DT531s but have lost the habit due to severe hearing loss in one ear. So herein lie my doubts : Refurbish them ? Can I easily replace the cable on them, the drivers seem to be OK as is the headband. Maybe new ear pads, too ?
Or would I be better off going for something new...
