I've bought a half dozen items based on ASR recommendations. A couple have gone back, a couple of DACs are fine but do not outperform my MDAC.
Does that help? I would find my post completely useless.
reasonably well built subwoofer cabinets don't vibrate. I use a pair of traditionally sized subwoofers as stands for my large Spendor bookshelfs, albeit separated by Isoacoustic pucks, just in case. Best stand solution of the many, many I've tried, plus the benefit of the increased frequency...
I've had a few small speakers in my Canadian house auditioning for a small system. Elacs were the best of the lot. Canuck Audio Mart is a good source for second hand, although Amazon.ca often has good prices on returns, often with free shipping, which you won'l likely get with Canuck.
Has one balanced, one single-ended input which could be added to by an external switcher; single ended and balanced output. Very transparent. Item is listed as no longer available at this seller, but is available elsewhere on Ali Express...
Re bettering older designs:
I've had a number of the recent superbly measuring Chinese wunderdacs in the house for a second system. I've compared all of them with my main system original mdac. None has bettered it.
For present and future flexibility, unless you already have a separate DAC I would go with a player with its DAC accessible by other external sources (Saturn above and others), or a transport/DAC two box setup. If you have a DAC then all you need is a CD transport.
