Thanks guys- food for thought, really think different speakers will have the biggest effect for me rather than tweaks and changes further up the chain at this stage..

I'm looking to replace my Spendors S6Es. Originally got my Spendors for a 'bigger' room-filling sound than my previous Rega ELAs (great little speaker!!). However I now find them too polite and bland - guess I want best of both worlds :-) btw I'm listening principally ALAC files within iTunes...
