Something very similar happened to me many years ago when I was in a record shop (yes they did exist) in East London with a friend. I had recently been very pleasantly surprised at just how accomplished a guitarist Sacha Distel was, so when I came across one of his albums ('My Guitar And All...
Whether you keep the existing or buy another cartridge do take the time to make sure it and the arm and TT (turntable) are is set-up correctly. I don't mean just as recommended either, be prepared to experiment with VTF and VTA etc., it will pay dividends in the end.
Why do I say this? Because...
I had ESC re-build my Troika in 2011 and am asking for any set-up advice/tips as despite persevering I still can't get it to sound as it did i.e. the bottom end sounds as I had hoped but the mid-range and top end can sound quite veiled and constrained - particularly on vocals.
In 2011 I...
Was the Transcriptor Saturn TT, as used in the film A Clockwork Orange, the earliest instance of Hi-Fi product placement in a movie I wonder, surely not? (See: http://vinylcast.net/?p=841)
I stopped buying Hi-Fi mags quite a few years ago as they (it seems to me) have quite simply one task: to make you/me/us 'realise' that whatever we might have - from recordings through to kit - it simply isn't good enough. Sell whatever you have now (no matter that it actually works and sounds...
The two I like best are...
Band of Gypsys (info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_of_Gypsys)
Valleys of Neptune (info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valleys_of_Neptune)
I would suggest you could benefit substantially by making improvements in the amp/speakers areas rather than spending a large chunk on your already very good TT.
I currently have (and use quite a bit) both an LP12 and a Manticore Mantra, so am familiar with both TT's. I'd suggest you keep the...
I'm so glad I've kept my collection (30+) of Beatles LP's which I started buying in the early 1970's, including quite a few US releases - including one on the VeeJay label as well as (rather more recently) the three 'Beatles At The BBC' LP's, 'No 1', and 'Love' - all on Vinyl I might add...
I hope they are better than when I saw them live a few years ago, Zak Starky on drums was the best bit of the show, Mr T. played (only) acoustic guitar all evening. A total disappointment to be honest, one I won't make again.
I used Naim's MM and MC boards in my 32.5 for many years before upgrading to a Prefix. IMO the boards are good, very good indeed for what they cost, though the Prefix (through a Hi-Cap) and a pair of Naim line-level boards in the 32.5 was a significant step up from the Naim phono boards.
Hi 8 ball audio,
I have an all chrome bumper Naim amplification set-up - currently being serviced - consisting of a NAC32.5 (purchased new by me around 1998 - it was one of the last 32.5 produced I believe), two Hi-caps (one for the 32.5, the other for a pre-fix phono stage), plus a NAP 180...
