    Painting, the clean up,

MEK is highly flammable, (think petrol on steroids!) be very careful. You must use it outside and do not inhale the fumes. It will ruin your lungs! I would not recommend it unless there is no alternative. Andy

    Violin bass guitar

Paul McCartney has used one since his early days in The Beatles and still does, so he seems to like them. As ever the best thing to do is find a dealer and give one a go. I love the look and sound of my Rickenbacker 4001 but find it awkward to play so usually use my Fender. Andy

    No spare wheel

No spare in my Cmax; just the useless pump and can of sealer. There's a space under the carpet in the boot, just no spare! Supposedly it's a weight saving measure for better MPG and emissions. I've had a puncture twice where the can and pump were worse than useless! I bought a spare wheel and...

    Best drummer.. ever?

A few I've not seen mentioned are Carl Palmer, John Bonham, Mitch Mitchell and John Marshall of Soft Machine fame. Best ever? Who knows! Arguments could be made for any number of them. Andy

    Speaker type poll..

ProAc Tablette 50 - sound so much bigger than their size would suggest. They have to be on very heavy stands to be at their best. I use Target R1s. Linn Keilidh - Not as sophisticated as the Tablettes, but great fun when the neighbours are out! Andy

"Roads will be Carnage this Christmas!"

Maybe I'm not used to manic traffic conditions having spent most of my driving years in the relatively sparsely inhabited regions of Northumberland. There was a distinct impression that there was a "Me first, me first" attitude in many of the other drivers. Andy

"Roads will be Carnage this Christmas!"

We've been to Leigh near Wigan and home to North Durham twice in the last month and I can say yesterday's journey was much quieter than the one 3 weeks ago. I thought the A1/A1M was generally pretty poor for a motorway but the M62 makes it feel more like a nice Sunday afternoon drive in the...

    Carl Sagan

I never missed his TV programme, 'Cosmos', when it first aired. I loved it so much I was given the matching book for Christmas that year. I still have it, though, no doubt, a lot of the 'facts' will have been proved wrong since then. He always came across as a thoroughly decent person and so...

    Simon Clarke: Climate Change.

It seems to me that the political will is lacking, not just here but worldwide. This is a problem that requires a worldwide, with no exceptions, effort to achieve any meaningful result. When London suffered from the smog problems in 1952 a solution was found and implemented, when it was...

    Washing machine bearings

If you can be bothered, bearings are relatively easy to replace. Bearings themselves are fairly cheap to buy and if you have access to a hub-puller it's quite an easy job. Take the old bearings to a supplier and they'll give you the right size. Andy PS if they are likely to come into contact...

    Bright star

Mercury and Venus are only visible for a short time before and after sunrise and sunset as they are between the Earth and the Sun. Venus is sometimes called either the morning or evening star because it is so bright. Andy

    Hooray, a new hifi store.

Nice to see the parking is easier than Gateshead town centre. It was the one downside of going to Lintone. I'll pop in next time I'm passing. Andy
