    Computer//streaming how do??

Buy a Benchmark or Lavry DAC to go with your Squeezebox - job done. Then improve your speakers and your room. Andrew

    Computer//streaming how do??

If you set it to 24/96 then you are relying on your computer to resample the bit depth from 16 bit to 24 bit. This degrades the sound and means that the data arriving at the DAC can NEVER be bit perfect, by definition. Try setting it to 44/16. Andrew

    What media player?

Yes, it's really painful on a PC. I couldn't believe the difference when I bought a Macbook (not particularly high spec) and ran it on that... Outlook is really bad on both, it must be said.

    Speakers for classical music

Should be able to get some used Shahinian Arcs for under £1500. Easy to drive and plenty of scale there.

Computer audio - what am I missing??

Peter, something to bear in mind is that modern DACs are really very good and unless they are unusually badly designed will all sound quite similar. Of course there are differences but if on a totally arbitrary scale the sound difference between a £100 DAC and a £2000 DAC is 10% of the system...

Computer audio - what am I missing??

Hi Spacey, nice to hear from you again, even though you have abandoned the One True Path that is ATC ;) You are slightly wrong on this one. First of all it has nothing to do with "midi" or "midi drivers", it's just that the mac dialog box happens to have two tabs, one of which is "audio" and...

Computer audio - what am I missing??

This is actually MUCH more important than it sounds. I was amazed at the difference it made when my music was being resampled by my PC to 48k before going into my Lavry DAC and ATC speakers. A setting was changed in the PC without me realising it and I couldn't understand why the music was so...

    £80 headphone suggestions....

They are bass-light though, compared to the neutral HD600s and fairly flat HD25s. I own all of those and rather too many others...

    Headphones for iPhone?

The 25s (expensive ones not the SPs) were my travel headphones for planes and trains. I have happily replaced them with the X5s. The X5s have better isolation and the sound quality is on a par. I would say that the 25s are more neutral whereas the X5s are a little more pop EQ. They are a bit...

    Headphones for iPhone?

I have Ety 6s and a lot of other headphones (Senn 600, Senn 25, Senn 280, Grado 80s etc). Last year I bought some Klipsch Image X5 in-ears. They are brilliant, accurate and fun. Excellent bass (maybe a touch bolder than neutral) and a much more comfortable fit than the Etys. Well worth a try...

    Squeezebox alternatives

I control my SB3 with a 1st generation iPod Touch and with an iPad. Both are excellent, using iPeng.

How many Shahinian users on here

I am that rare person who sold his pair of Arcs - SWMBO complained because she couldn't rest her tea cups on them! Replaced with a pair of active ATC 50s, which are different from the Arcs and better really in any rational analysis. But I still missed the Arcs and bought another pair less than a...
