It doesn’t really matter if they are useful descriptions (to anybody else) or not. The point I was making really was that I heard differences and that’s how I would describe them in my own vocabulary but those kind of differences would be difficult or impossible to predict using traditional...
Exactly, so buying based on measurements alone is not a great idea. I was thinking about the differences I heard last night, and then I thought about this thread and did wonder if I’d stumbled across something that traditional measurements wouldn’t reveal. Certainly in my mind I didn’t think it...
Going back to electronics, I was comparing my Rega Elex with my Aethos (integrated amps) last night. The sound produced by the Aethos seemed weightier and more solid in the air. It also has a better sense of calm and effortlessness. What measurements would I look at that would account for these...
That depends on your definition of good. I can get a sense of what you mean by good, but it’s not necessarily the same as what I would consider good based on what I’m looking for when choosing components for listening to music for enjoyment.
Personally, if I had to choose between two...
I pop back in there now and then. The oddest question I saw asked recently was what was the best DAC to buy to burn in the USB socket on his new music server (USB socket would be unused in normal use but he just wanted to burn everything in). The advise was clear … to make thorough job of it...

I checked eBay selling prices on this version and they seem to go for £550 and up. This is in excellent condition, even the plastic film on the front panel is still to be removed.
Thanks for the update. I have a Brio and an Aethos here so I can compare and contrast. Where the Aethos is big, bold, detailed and dynamic, the Brio is smaller, softer, but inviting and intimate. I’m curious now to have a listen to the Line Magnetic.
I’m very much on the side of the argument that says electrical noise entering equipment via Ethernet cables can pollute ground planes, clocks, etc. but perhaps the data waveform itself is just another form noise that unfortunately must be allowed in. We’re probably doomed and we all should just...
Would be interesting to know how you think they compare. The Brio (current version) sounds lovely to me. Massively underrated I think, probably because it’s too cheap!
I don’t think anyone has a problem with that. The issue seems to be that if the new speaker bears no resemblance to a speaker that was made 35 years ago then use of that speakers name has set a certain expectation and has left people a bit puzzled and perhaps disappointed
