    The next 007

most of the people who gt mentioned are already too old. I remember when Daniel Craig got the job I thought it was a mistake as he's too good an actor..... he then elevated the role so its a much tougher act to follow. Dev Patel - too good to waste IMO! Of all the names that have...

Film and TV chat in general

Exactly.... I've watched 3 episodes so far and fallen asleep every time. No such problem with Shogun.... Most recent episode was very compelling.

    Sir Andrew Davis RIP

Can't believe PFM hasn't mentioned this yet, Sir Andrew passed aged 80 on Saturday. I don't think he got the credit he deserved. Agree with this article https://slippedisc.com/2024/04/sir-andrew-davis-and-the-snobs/ I really enjoyed his Elgar symphonies and the RVW 6th on Telarc, which also...

    [WTD] Full frame Mirrorless camera.

The original 24-70 f4 is the best of the sensibly priced Nikon Z everyday lenses, and is readily available at good prices. The 24-120 is excellent too but not quite as good, its colours just seem a bit overcooked compared to the 24-70 f4. The 24-200 trades quality for that longer reach, but...

The classical what are you listening to now ? thread.

Inspired by the "Nazi" thread I dug this forgotten disc out of my shelves (well, virtually, they have languished om my music server for about 9 years!) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brahms-Symphony-Dvorak-DECCA-Originals/dp/B004AUUNV2/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21 Actually available at Presto, but not on...

The classical what are you listening to now ? thread.

Just googling a bit on Ustvolskaya.... she really resented the fact that almost no-one gave consideration to her music or career without framing it in terms of her relationship with Shostakovich. They seem to have had an estrangement after she studied with him for a few years. She was quite...

    Classical Concert chat...

RSNO at Usher Hall last night. John Wilson conducting all-Brit programme of John Ireland's A Forgotten Rite, Elgar's Sea Pictures and Holst's The Planets. I had never heard the Ireland piece before, it was a gentle piece of Celtic Twilight late-romantic tone poem... Nice but didn't leave much...

Leica look on video - Ripley...

Completed it tonight. Very enjoyable despite its very slow pace, but the quality of the acting and writing made it one to savour. And yes, every frame is beautifully shot.

Spill the beans on Camille.... What did the vile Saint-Saens do? I haven't heard.

    PFM's Picture a Week 2024

Possibly last photo from Gairloch trip. Overall its simply been too wet and too windy to get out much with the camera. This was from a very wet walk on Tuesday. Creag an Fhithich Gairloch 1 April 09, 2024 by mr.noisy, on Flickr

    PFM's Picture a Week 2024

Cul Beag, Stac Pollaidh and Cul Mor, from the Knockan Crag visitor centre on the A835. I have taken photos of this same view literally dozens of times over the years, in every season except deep winter, and never tire of it. Assynt April 2 April 11, 2024 by mr.noisy, on Flickr

    Any love for MX5’s?

Not one to show off toys much but took this earlier today. Cul Mor is the backdrop. (I dared not take the roof down as the wind was gusting up to 50mph!) Mazda at Assynt 1 April 11, 2024 by Alan Beebie, on Flickr

    Hungaroton/Conifer

Yep Boots the Chemist had their own classical brand in the 1980s and 90s..... just re-issues of other labels though. A good one, also originally released on Conifer, was Peter Dickinson's collection of Erik Satie piano music. Can't remember what else they had on there.
