+1 cdp557esd was their top of the range player - in Japan and in the US it was sold as 707esd model. Many people don't get it and think of cdp557esd as a middle model from the ES series, which is why the prices haven't skyrocketed yet, like basicly all 7-series models.

For those that have the Kraken and think about servicing - just do it. I have recetly bought a super low hours, trully mint Kraken APD6mk2 and the caps were absolutely toast. There was only around 5000uF capacitance left in the origonal 6800uF caps. Worst still - the ESR was ... 1.1 Ohm ...

Sth is not right with the amp. A dried up caps maybe ? I would start with replacing them anyway. My OA21S was driving the Magico M3 speakers without any problems, although it DID get very warm after 30 min or so, so I do not recommend a difficoult to drive speakers for this amp. But it never...

My amp has a dual voltage transformer. You can rewire it, but IMO once the amp reaches US, the price will be to high to make it competitive sound wise.

We have put those UCC SMH series 12.000uf / 50V low ESR (28 mOhm) caps in 30x50mm package. The amp works just fine with them. We had however to drill some small holes in the PCB to make all of them them fit - thankfully, the traces on the PCB were wide enough to accomodate new soldering points...

May I ask what are the values of caps that you have used in the PSU ? I have seen people putting anything from 4700 to 6800uF, 50V to 63V. I have just bought an used OA21S and would like to replace those. I have noticed, that one could probably even fit 12.000uf / 50V low ESR (28 mOhm) caps...
