Technics SLP-120 CD player, direct-drive, Hall-effect motor has slow start-up

Yes, replaced ALL caps except the SMD ceramic caps on that PCB. No change in issue after all those replaced. Yup I was careful with the SMDs. They (origs) come of cleanly if you know how to remove them. Replaced those with HW, small electros. What "supplies" with o'scope? I did find another...

Technics SLP-120 CD player, direct-drive, Hall-effect motor has slow start-up

ISSUE: Slow startup. Sometimes, a gentle nudge by fingers is required. QUERY: What's the culprit? ----- These are actual pictures, I took myself, of the motor in question. That spindle in my SLP-120 spins very freely and has good inertia if I give it a twirl w/my fingers. I did oil the shaft on...

    Naim CDX2 laser mech removal.

Given that Naim does a fine job of delivering clean power, and to that reputable Philips laser head, I can only assume that … y’all are abusin’ yer gear. Dewars and CDing don’t mix. And/or you are rackin’ up some massive hours run time on yer gear. Is the Naim part of the pub’s Muzak system? 12...

    Naim CDX2 laser mech removal.

How did you ascertain the Naim has a bad laser? If the laser isn’t receiving good, clean power, it can malfunction. Check fusible resistors. One may be open.

    Got Ticks and Fleas?

Not “thin” but more like “hollow “. IAC, you and your fellow drinkers , here in the PFM cesspool, are provisionally existential and “matter” ONLY inside this filter bubble. Protected by busybody modz , always tweaking the mixing console, so that echo chamber reverb rings “melodic ”. Btw: I...

    Got Ticks and Fleas?

Amusing and delusional, Clark. Look at my threads, posts … chock full of ACTUAL photos of soldered up projects. Dig thru my posts, here there anywhere. But I guess we’re ALL using screens to look at those photos… so the TV C&H cartoon makes sense. Hmmm… Btw… refresh rate on those CRTs is still...

    Got Ticks and Fleas?

Yes, Martin. Your predictable obligatory response. PigletsDad: but this thread isn’t about clocks and oscillators.

    Got Ticks and Fleas?

Found an opamp-based regulator stage in a commercial audio product. A 1988 Kenwood DP-1510 CD player. I just purchased this unit second hand. The opamps used for power is a jellybean JRC 4558D. Martin, what do you think? Room for improvement? Maybe a better opamp? In the schema image below...

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

    Indeed, a cartoon:

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

As I've noted here at PFM several times, I have built many of the TPRs (Acoustica page 4) ... and some of the images of same PS box, part of my Magnavox Mess project, are shown below. Some TPRs are in other devices so I probably have about dozen around, some in daily use. In these photos, some...

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

The LED is just an idiot light; I put LEDs into all my regs just as an ON/OFF indicator . And LEDs and their current limiting R will gently drain caps at power down.

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

Oops ... forgot this one from my parts bin ... a (pos) unit based on dual (tracking) lm317s. Built (and behaving) exactly like the other two prev. mentioned: excellent performance but useless var. pot (the blue device). R4 (1k Bourns) from: http://www.acoustica.org.uk/t/3pin_reg_notes4.html...

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

Um… oh okay… so in THAT case, forget the original request, guv ;)

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

Back of the envelope ... use a pen and junk mail paper. Take a photo with your phone. Easy peasy, guv. Start with this first (unless you don't really think it is all that special of a "design") ...

    Gyrator + tracking pre-reg (does/will it work?)

I thought you were going to stick with the subject of this thread, guv, and draw up a schema of the gyrator? What Pardo came up with in 2006 (see link in my prev. posts). I think you, guv, noted something like using a bd139 instead of Pardo's orig bc547.
