Naim Nait 50

What do companies making products exist for .......
Not sentementality.
Not to do you a favour .
Not for a mate .
Not for fun .

To make money and proftable money at that and as much as they possibly think they can to shift product in the timescale that is required.

I've said this so many times ,there no gun at anyone's head to buy this .It's a choice matter ,and if I or anyone else should decide they want it and are prepared to pay the price advertised ,then Naim have got it RIGHT.
I think they have as I've ordered mine and countless others have too. I'm sorry but I don't care if Naim ,dealer make money out of me ,that's what they exist for .it's my choice to part with my money but if a by product is their continued existence ,so be it . I didn't but it for these reasons ,I bought it because I wanted it for the reasons personal to me .

I’ll be honest, as someone previously without any “skin in the game”, I always wondered why there was so much heat between what I can only describe as the Naim-crowd and the anti-Naimers.

I had Naim based systems in the 90s through to around 2010 (although initially a 52/135/SL2 and latterly an integrated/n-Sat system), but moved to other pastures later. Always enjoyed them, and still have a big soft spot in particular for SL2s.

I’m buying a Nait 50 for a mixture of nostalgia and an expectation of a fun sounding amp.

To come back to my opening point, I’m actually surprised how offended I am by the scorn poured on those of us spending our hard-earned in the manner we so chose to do.

But, as they say, haters gotta hate…

Above is where I think you get it wrong or misunderstand.

I don't care really if your buying 5 or 10 Naits, your decision and no mockery send (hope this translation from non British is right)
People seem to take it personal because some of us criticize Focal/Naim or their policy, pricing, profit hunt and so on.
Nothing to do with haters too.

Some interesting posts on the Naim thread from a staff member.

It's not a regulated design - that was incorrect and hopefully amended.

Shame I don't need one but it would have to replace my boltdown 12/160 which I enjoy too much to let go. And I don't want stuff hanging around not being used.

I appreciate that this Nait 50 links back to Julian in a way that a partnering streamer would not, but a CB streamer would have been super cool.

More importantly, this is a great surprise and celebration of their 50th. Well done Naim!

Companies need to make a profit. I am sure Rega make similar margins.

Naim is owned by Investment Groups, most that work at these groups don't really care what their holdings are as long as they make bank:
Change of ownership at Focal-Naim
11/11/2019

The French speaker specialist Focal and the British streaming pioneer Naim, who merged to form the "Vervent Audio Group" in 2014, are facing a change of majority ownership.

So far, the financial investor "Naxicap Partners" has been the main shareholder of the Vervent Group. Now another financial investor, Alpha Private Equity, is to acquire the majority stake. The step will be taken in close cooperation with Vervent's management. This would "accelerate the development of growth potential in both the local and global markets," according to a press release. This will be further supported by "Focal Powered By Naim Concept Stores", three of which were opened in Seoul, Lyon and Scottsdale (USA) in 2019. With 430 employees, the Group is expected to generate annual sales of EUR 110 million in 2019. The company is investing more than 8% of this amount in research and development. To date, the new majority shareholder has not held any stakes in relevant companies, but holds a very mixed portfolio of European companies. The takeover is to be completed before the end of the year "in close consultation with employee representatives and the responsible antitrust authorities".

On the other hand REGA is still owned by the same guy since 1973 and their still an engineering company first:
Rega -Roy Gandy- maintains a custom-built factory and has about 140 employees. It has no marketing department, but produces every model in the UK and some in Asia, and tries to maintain UK-based parts suppliers as well. The only advertisement Rega ever ran was to say that it didn’t advertise, preferring to invest every penny into research and product development. The Rega factory is located in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK- east of London.

I know all this as do most on this forum. Rega are a business, not a charity. The same old nonsense about Regas not advertising or doing marketing etc. Oh spare me, they are active on social media, they’ve done product placement in music magazines, they support a dealer network etc etc.

Rega are a great company, they operate in a different market segment. Naim lost their founder many years ago, would you rather they went bust?

Thanks for the obviously intended decency in this reply. I’ll possibly expand on my thoughts tomorrow when sober. Root canal treatment today, over two hours in the chair, so in whiskey refuge just now…

FFS! Bit difficult for Naim to still be owned by its founder being as he’s dead.

It seems there are several in here that would.

This is a quasi-complementary design. The NAIT was complementary where the Nait 2 moved to quasi (designed by Roy George). Seems a linkage to JV only in cosmetics and the RIAA bump in low frequencies. No criticism…I am sure it will look and sound fantastic.

I was fascinated to read that this was a regulated amp only to be disappointed later upon finding that was a marketing error. When will (if ever) Naim release a fully regulated integrated?!

To give a slightly better answer, part of the problem is that some* are pouring scorn, whilst others are perhaps only raising their POV that Naim don’t offer value for money. Even then, the anti-Naim sentiment seems disproportionate.

*no names, no ad hom. Not hard to find though.
