The Premiership of Mary Elizabeth Truss.Sept 2022 - Oct 2022

Spoken like a true Tory, mandryka :(

Sorry, but speculating for profit on people who will already be hard pressed to make rent in Than London strikes me as particularly distasteful at this time in particular.

Oh no, I would never dream of letting a property go anyone who is hard pressed to pay rent! That’s the way to lose your money.

If property prices fall, and if you’ve got cash, BTL. You’ll have to be careful about which property but if you choose right, it’ll be a nice little earner. Rents will go up as landlords move out of the sector, and asset prices will rise again. I’d be very tempted but I can’t really afford another in London and buying out of London is too much like hard work!

Agreed. If we see forced sales at big reductions due to over leveraged landlords, I’ll go long.

I suspect there will be bargains but property is a pretty illiquid asset - expensive and time consuming to sell. And you can't just cash in a couple of grands worth when you get an unexpected bill.

This will start hurting middle England as the interests rates rise. On the bright side it makes it more likely Truss and her vultures will be out in a couple of years.

It will hurt absolutely everyone.

It amazes and horrifies me the extent to which the media is framing this whole thing purely from an individual/home perspective. That is just the visible tip of the iceberg. The real pain will come with the inevitable collapse of tens/hundreds of thousands of businesses who understandably do not have the headroom to absorb this catastrophic level of government incompetence and its sky-rocketing increases in energy and materials costs. That equates to unemployment and a reduction in tax-take and therefore increases the economic death-spiral of the UK on the world stage.

This needs fixing real fast. Parliament should be recalled and the Chancellor should resign.

I'm assuming that their economic policy is outlined in 'Britannia Unchained' or whatever the dubious book they were involved in 10 years ago. Does it in any way read as a manifesto?

An air of 'intelligence' is the key factor that dim bulbs at our 'better public schools' get taught. Rhetoric, don't ya know, eh?... All about show, not substance. Good chaps.

But think of all those distressed assets- now’s the time to swoop! No need to cry over the little fella- he should have known what he was in for.

I had to turn off BBC News this morning- the coverage was imbecilic. Your mortgage payments will go up ( yeah) but no mention of then you’ll lose your job and food, clothing and heating will be unaffordable.

The BBC have a lot to be worried about at the moment, I hoped things may improve for them but new minister Michelle Donelan seems just as batshit crazy anti BBC as mad Nad, judging from an interview she gave the other day.

I would have hoped they`ed go down fighting rather than just fold though.

This week my employer, a manufacturer of specialist technical equipment, has decided to stop pricing its goods in GPB. Export sales to UK will now be payable in Euro only. That will hurt sales, but the alternative was to keep revising the pricelist three to four times a year, or risk taking a massive hit on UK orders. They won’t be alone in this: small exporters in the EU are not willing to take on currency risk just to sell stuff - a sale at a loss is worse than no sale at all. When the currency was stable, businesses took the view that the ups cancelled out the downs, and it was worth the hassle for the ease of sale. From now on, that risk will be passed to distributors and end-customers in the UK, and prices will go up as they assume the currency risks.

Look at the damage Johnson did in a couple of years and his was still more popular than Starman...

Yes but any personal qualities in the leader that the Electorate may have liked under Boris Johnson, are not there under Liz Truss. The Conservatives cannot rely on that as a figleaf to hide poor policy choices nor fall back on it when it goes wrong.

This is from three weeks ago, I can't imagine what it looks like now.
