When I was in Perth (jan/Feb) it was about 32 but it was lovely and quite bearable (although I was a lot younger). Dry heat there, not the humidity one finds here so often. Sydney, about the same time of year, was an entirely different scenario.
Muslin you say?Just put up some muslin screening surely?
I got one of those the other night from Mrs SC, as it goes., more like a sharp rap of '.. well, obviously don't do that, you twit' rebuttal
Certainly do. I've traded a chicken factory at 8 dev C for a bakery at 30-odd in a heatwave. I know how to pick 'em.Pfft, man up. Some folks work in these conditions, never mind sitting around eating ice lollies.
I find it amusing that the recent heat wave is being reported as an “emergency” whilst for the last 40 years or so the majority of brits appear to have considered that the main reason for spaffing their yearly savings on a holiday to similar climatic conditions.
My father worked in the foundry at Ideal Standard. In the Sumer, it took all his strength to make it home. That's why I will never complain.Certainly do. I've traded a chicken factory at 8 dev C for a bakery at 30-odd in a heatwave. I know how to pick 'em.
That’s a good thing surelyThus helping to create the situation whereby they don't need to fly for those temperatures anymore.......

I worked full time summer on the beaches, 75-77, great times indeed. Weaver fish took their fair toll on the holiday makers as did blistering sunburn. In the end James Lovelock will be proven right and the human virus will be history.Hot temperatures in the UK are nothing new. The summer of 1976 saw temperatures at or above 32c for at least 2 weeks, maybe longer. I was way to young to know anything about it (6 months old!), but my parents often recall it.
The world is definitely warming up, there can be no getting away from that, but a level 4 warning for the UK is highly unlikely, perhaps in another 50 years' a temp of 40c might be reached, but I would be surprised if got there in my lifetime.
My biggest concern is how we tackle countries like Brazil where they are still actively destroying the 'lungs of the planet' for giant cattle farms etc. Just look at what happened recently to the British journalist Dom Phillips. Until this is addressed, I don't think it matters how much you do elsewhere (although this is still very important), the planet will still be on a one way trajectory!
It's a scary situation and one that I am not sure the human race is capable of rectifying. Maybe we will end up being collateral damage as Mother Nature takes back control, time will tell...

That would be a great opening line for a book!
That’s my default mode.Relax, keep movement to a minimum,
