Lu's Thread

Here is non-too-fine photo taken a few minutes ago after we came back from Bromyard and had another nice walk. She is gaining her confidence. As for house training I cannot see the issue. She has not done anything inside and did it properly outside. I can only think that she would have to have been desperate to be let out.

She is very playful, which must a be a good sign that she is not emotionally scared. Just not given enough care and attention.

We’ve had a dog for most of our married lives until we lost our last one two years ago. Unfortunately the time isn’t right for another so I envy you George but at the same time I’m really pleased for you. I know this dog will give you great pleasure. Luna is a lovely name btw :)

Luna is a lovely name btw :)

Also the name of my daughter and son in law's Great Dane. They took her in at 12 weeks old having had three previous owners (now 8 months). Been out to a doggy group with Jon this morning, which involves a lot of rough and tumble. Great fun watching although at a different doggy group last Wednesday evening I was a bit on edge with a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I'm slowly learning and feeling more confident but still a little cynophobic.

Good luck with your Luna

Apologies.

I cannot raise the bbcode on Flickr,

So here goes with a real nice photo taken on the Washbourne [part of the Bromyard Downs, right by my flat] a few minutes ago. She really is as nice as she looks in this picture!

PS: Amazingly she gave me a tiny little kiss when we came back in! Progress is being made!

Here you are, George...

Thank you. This picture does catch her quite well, though she moves about so much and quickly that getting a decent single pic takes about six goes! Also she can run faster than me, which means caution for a while till I get her responsive to recall. But we'll make little steps and get her under safe control eventually. Rome was not built in a day!

Dear Oldius,

Hard to put in words, but I do know from experience the joy that dogs bring. I think the bargain is really that you have to put their wellbeing as top priority if you are going to have one or two! Then the joy comes back in spades.

Best wishes from George

Is a cross between a bulldog and a beagle known as a bugle?

She is often horny!
In fact, they are known as Beabull - one of the designer dogs that were churned out by puppy farms, causing tremendous suffering to the dogs. We rescued her when she was two, already the mum of 2-3 litters of pups, riddled with mange and 5kg less than she is now (25%).

This is her when we rescued her compared to now:

Luna is a sweety with a few issues that have manifested in her imprinting on me to the point that she goes ballistic when I am out of sight. That can be coaxed out of her, by building her confidence.

She learned to slip her harness, and play with [short for she did not catch and kill one before I rugby tackled her] chickens. That is a ratting Terrier, but so long as she does not get the taste for blood she will calm down.

But I doubt many Patterdales have been to Specsavers while their "human" was fitted with new glasses. I phoned first and explained that just at the moment she would be seriously embarrassing if she were out of sight. So my new specs have the approval of a Patterdale and the amusement of staff and customers of the Worcester branch. Of course she behaved perfectly in that - for her - unique experience, but then their were no chickens to put to flight!

She will prevail to be a lovely, socialised sweet little dog, but she has given me some panic so far.

Sixty year olds should not be rugby tackling terriers!

Best wishes from George
