Three piece suit hire or buy Glasgow for Wedding

That blue tweed suit looks nice. Not an obvious choice for a wedding, but interesting none the less.

Tweed might be a bit too warm with a waistcoat, but I see you are in Scotland.

Tweed is also quite versatile in that you can also wear the jacket with jeans or other trousers.

Don’t forget to try and enjoy the process Tony! London might not be the most convenient for you but I know I don’t have to visit them again as I simply call them for next suit or jacket & trousers and they already have my measurements. Im guessing the good retailers closer to home for you work the same way.

how about a Zentai Suit? maybe not - they are one piece......

Tony, wait till you see the bill for the wedding, you’ll wish you had got your pants lined!

We're not paying Hugh, my daughter and her partner are paying for the wedding, my wife and I bought the wedding dress though.

We paid for her to be in that position, cost us a fortune to support her through university:D

Hi Paul, thanks, yes I'm seriously thinking about going down for a couple of days to London or maybe Belgium, my wife needs an outfit too and I think the outfits she's looking at have an outlet in Belgium too.

My wife came with for the 2nd visit which was fitting and collection (thankfully no alterations needed) so in our case it was train, Bromptons taking in various views, wandering round Savile Row and Bond Street right next to them, a meander on the bikes round various streets then eating on the Strand so we have good memories of the occasion. Sounds like Belgium can be an enjoyable trip in similar fashion

Thanks, yes I like the suits here below, just wondering however if I buy a three piece suit does the jacket look okay when not worn with a waistcoat ie it's not too big?

I like this one too and I think my size might be a 38R or 40R, I contacted a local tailor this morning, they do alterations they said they'd be happy to alter a suit bought on line (they don't make suits).

Yes, a jacket for a 3 piece can be worn without the waistcoat, it's not too big. The absence of sleeves on the waistcoat means that it doesn't fill out the jacket round your shoulders so the difference is minimal.

Thanks guys, it's years since I bought a suit, 2009 for my daughter's graduation, I wore it about three years ago to a good friends funeral sadly but the suit was massive (I'd lost a lot of weight) so I threw the suit away, it was a nice suit though, Dior, I think, bought it from Slater's in Glasgow.

These guys look decent too.

Right guys, I've an appointment with Stewart Christie in Edinburgh on Saturday, I called them to arrange the appointment this morning, first impressions are very good.

I think I'm going to go full on three piece suit in tweed and off the peg, they have a few suits in my size (41" chest) so 42R, I think for the suit, I asked if they had a tweed charcoal grey in stock and he's put one aside for me in my size.

I'm thinking of going the full tweed bhoona with Derbys, braces and a bow tie.

To hell with poverty:D

Good shout! Get a good tweed suit and you can practically use it as overalls, like what the toffs do. Last for years. Do the gardening in it or mucking out the beagles.

Showing my age and miserablist tendancies, but I can't help but see the "cut" of modern suits as just looking too small and faintly comical. Norman Wisdom always comes to mind. WTFDIK though.

Thanks, those Derbys look good enough to climb a mountain, £380 though so they should be at least good for walking the dog on a wet miserable day in Glasgow in November:D

PS, to kill two birds with the one stone so to speak I've also arranged an appointment with the competition at 4pm on Saturday afternoon so that's my back up if I don't get sorted at S&C early doors.

The two shops are literally within walking distance of each other in the New Town.

Right guys I’m now sorted, cost me a right few bob but what the hell:D

Three piece MACBAIN charcoal grey merino suit, dress shirt, a proper bow-tie, Cheany dark leaf Arthur III brogues and a pair of braces.

The guy (Daniel) in the shop didn’t charge for the bow-tie (£45) or the alterations to the jacket sleeves and trouser legs lengths.

I can’t recommend Stewart and Christie enough, Daniel had put aside a suit for me and it was perfect for what I was looking for and it was a near perfect fit too only the sleeves were a bit long and the trousers too otherwise it was spot on.

Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions.

Tony

You're splashing the cash there ,have a great time at the wedding.

Thanks, it was actually a great experience, I never buy good clothes these days however I do buy very good outdoor gear for walking the dog ie boots and jackets so the suit etc really isn’t that much more expensive relatively speaking and to be completely honest I don’t have a pair of shoes that would do the suit justice but those brogues actually make the suit if you know what I mean?

We made a day of it we had a really nice lunch in Fishers in the City just off Hanover st, I wanted to treat my wife as we’ve not really been for a decent meal since pre-pandemic, the food was excellent a wee bit expensive but not massively so anyway my wife enjoyed herself.

End of the day it’s not every day you walk your daughter up the aisle I’ve only got one daughter so hopefully this is a one off:D
