Whisky II

Can’t see many Black Friday goodies that we haven’t seen all year. I managed a reduced Laphroaig quarter cask and a Talisker 10yo but nothing truly interesting. Anyone any bargains to share?

Not really, some reasonably priced bourbon and rye on Amazon - Elijah Craig £36.49, Sazerac £30. If you're a Dylan fan you can get a fancy looking bottle of Tennessee whiskey adorned with his metalwork - Heavens Door, now a mere snip at £49...

No BF purchases here.
Roy Duff - Bunna 12 cask strength is a different beast to the standard 12; not that impressed although "good and interesting"- less sherried, drier, oak forward and £10 to £15 overpriced.
Intimated he'd rather have two of the standard 12 instead.
I somewhat naively assumed it would be just a normal 12 at cask strength.
This seems to be the best online price at £70: https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p...ChSYB5MhYxU3ng7dgYSkfAED44zATxJxoC_B8QAvD_BwE

My brother has tried the Bunna 12 cask; said he wasn't that wowed by it at all; more so as the standard 12 is such a good bottle and usually at a great price...

Nowt... Nothings jumped out at me and TBH I'll be going back to Byrnes in Clitheroe in the next week or so to treat myself to a few bottles for Christmas as their prices (more so for the Signatory bottles that I've hardly gotten into, yet); are very VERY competitive and for me, spending locally is better than lining Bezos's pockets etc

Only had the neck pour of the Bunna CS but for what it's worth I loved it. I love the 12 yo too. Will put some studious hours in this weekend... Might throw the Stiuir and 18 yo into the mix.
The CS range price comparison by Roy was interesting. Really must try the Glenfarclas 105. Is it as good as Arran Bodega?

I'm tempted by that Glenfarclas 105 but I've got that down as what I'll buy when I eventually get around to doing the tour there. I've got a cask strength (64.3% ABV) Glenfarclas from the SMWS (https://smws.eu/enigmatic-and-disputatious/) that I'd be interested in comparing it against. My theory is that the SMWS release is from one of the ex-bournon barrels that'd normally be used to create the 105 as it's a similar age (8-years), but with the SMWS cask rather than the mix of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon barrels that the 105 uses. On that basis I wouldn't be surprised if I prefer the 105.

I like the look of the 105; but I've promised myself this when I look to buy another Glenfarclas:

I'll probably crack my bottle this weekend and see what it's like.
Neck pour.
Coming from the standard 12 to the cask strength Bunna is a little bit of a disappointment. I was expecting a sherry cask bomb. Not so. Different cask make up or more refills? Maybe it will open up.
A bit annoyed that it was £81 from the distillery and is £70 on the Whisky Exchange.
You live and learn.

I just finished a bottle of the toasted barrel Michters rye, I liked it but also really liked pikesville rye, would recommend them both. I think Abbey Whisky had a couple of Michter releases yesterday but they were scooped up quickly. I have been less partial to bourbon after being spoiled inadvertently by a van winkle 12 yo lot b.
