No Time to Die, Yet?

Andrew C!

Been around a while....
Anyone going to the cinema to see this?

It will be my 1st foray to Nottingham's Cineworld since Feb 2020.

!st reviews out seem generally very positive.

I'm looking forward to it. Craig is the best Bond, IMV, anyway...:D

Evenings out are a luxury at the moment, so I’ll be waiting for the 4K BluRay for a while I guess?

DC definitely the best Bond to date. Hope the next one isn’t a flop.

I’ll be disappointed if ana de armas turns out to be a stereotype bad guy double agent.

Hopefully not another woke statement before all else shambles.

Yes, if half the hype is true it’ll be good. I would say DC is equal best Bond with SC, Sean’s performance was in a much different time when the popular concept of spies and spying was under-developed and the special effects were severely limited compared to now. Both great anyway.

Got to agree with Bart, Craig and Connery for me too. I think Craig is great, the films not always. Will certainly be going to see it. Can’t remember the last pre-lockdown visit to the Cinema.

Cheers BB

My wifes B'day on Thursday - so we might be tempted to go and watch it - we both have the day off and the weather looks likely to be less than wonderful.

Roger Moore for me, but that's probably an age thing, Sean Connery was before my time.

Craigs pouting puts me off, so I'll wait until it's on dvd

Nope.

It's 2 hours 43 minutes long.

Why does a James Bond film need to be that long? With a rumoured budget of $200m-$300m, couldn't they stretch to an editor? I've got other things to do, and an arse that might get sore. If you've got a decent screenplay, great - put it together and make it snappy. But a 2 hour 43 min Bond film? That's not a film, it's a mini-series.

I’m trying to temper my enthusiasm, after being disappointed with all the films that followed Casino Royale. It’s almost three hours long so take a cushion ;).

I thought the Craig Casino Royale was excellent but the dark and moody cinematography of Skyfall really p.....d me off. Hopefully this will be as good as Craig’s first

Going to be worth watching, reviews seem positive. Does seem to be over-long though. I will enjoy the stunt driving, mostly by Ben Collins (white-suited Stig on Top Gear). I met him at a trade show in May 2019 ("Ahhhh, Mr Collins, I wasn't expecting to see you here. What are you working on these days" "James Bond". Made him laugh anyway). Nice guy.

Enjoyed Skyfall, agree DC is my favourite Bond. There was a time when a 3 hour movie was a lavish treat, and 2 hours was short. Now we seem not to want to invest the time and 90 minutes is ‘feature length’. Personally, I’m happy to go and be entertained for 3 hours. I’d like to see it on the big screen. Will probably manage to go, soon.

Who plays Bond isn't that important, I think. What's mostly needed is just a blank face to plaster ones own expectations on. Ok, he should be able to carry a tuxedo :)

But someone with Craig's look would do better as a villain. Blofeld or Drax.

Couldn’t disagree more, I find that most movies today are at least 2 hours.

I disagree. The different actors have all stamped their own interpretations on the role, for good or ill, which does suggest it requires more than just a ‘blank face’. Roger Moore’s style couldn’t be more different to Daniel Craig’s, for example. I enjoyed them both, but for different reasons and they made for very different movies.

Bond is arrogant, supremely self-confident, and flawed as a human being. Craig groks this and portrays it brilliantly, imho.
