Sony ES

Could you please pm me a few details? Many Thanks.

Will do. I'll need to dig it out and take some pictures for you. In the meantime, please Google the model and see if it's something you're interested in. My example is serviced and ready to go. Cosmetic condition is at least 8/10, probably 9/10.

I've been reading around on Sony ES and it seems in typical baffling Sony fashion there's no real agreement over what E.S. actually stands for!

I'd always thought it was 'Elevate Standard'.

Some people say that it is a shortened version of 'Esprit'.

Other say it's 'Extremely High Standard'

Whatever the initials ES actually stands for; in practice it simply indicates it's a posher model.

my first good amp was the sony 700es, the cdp im still using today.

Thanks. There seem to be two 303s I can find. The X303 ES with a central tray and a 303 ES with a left-sided tray. Which one is yours?

My understanding from a sony engineer that worked on these machines is that ES is Elevated Standard.

So does the add on designation QS figure in all this? Or is that just marketing hype?

I say this as the proud owner of a Sony SACD player SCD-XB940 QS
I think Tony has one of these also.
Where does it lie in the Sony rankings? Skoda, VW or Audi?

Edit Found this in a review of the player
"QS stands for Quality Standard, positioned by Sony in between the entry level (Consumer Standard) and ES standard."

I had a QS amplifier. I believe QS stands for Quality Standard. So sits below ES and above their standard range.

This thread needs more ES pics. I really love the aesthetic.

Here's my office system:

The Audiolab acts as a USB interface from my computer, and I bought the TagMclaren DAC because it's cool, no other reason really.

And here's my cinema/listening room CD player:

All in near-mint condition :)

I had the 339ES CD Player, possibly the model up from your cinema room one, I can never tell with Sony numbering. Had it in my main rig about 30 years ago along with a few other Sony bits. The only Sony thing left from back then is a MDP-650D Laserdisc Player with AC3 and S-Vid comb filter mods.

Nice Tag DAC.

Yeah there isn't much info on the 229. It's not as hewn-from-granite as my X303 but it's still a really lovely bit of kit

There was a period in the early naughties I think where some of the UK Sony amps got upgraded and rebadged before going on sale. Small red square badge from memory but can’t remember what it said!
