At last! Snow HAS arrived in London! I'm celebrating with Shepherd Neame Spitfire in my Georgian pewter mug...but not before I went out into it in my undies.

a late lunch, beef again, not had any in ages, then twice in a week

crikey, fortunate to get away with not corking. we really like this wine, will decant shortly

Spotted this
Côtes-du-Rhône Mon Coeur, Sélection Jean-Louis Chave 2019 £42 IB

in that rhone offer.. bagged it with the Voge.

I didn't realise they don't guarantee you a purchase they put you in "the allocation
process".
Yes, that’s why I said there was no rush. You don’t lose anything by ordering at the last minute, which gives you time to track down a bottle of anything you don’t know to see if you like it. I wouldn’t worry though, I’ve always been allocated everything I put on my list (so far.)

You people are being very unfriendly and taciturn about my request for some Riesling recommendations at about £25. Maybe everyone’s too drunk.

I have been on a bit of a discovery of German and Italian wines since moving from post Brexit vote London to Germany 3.5 years back. As far as white wines go, I pretty much only drink German wines (other than the occasional Burgundy) - Riesling trocken/halb-trocken/GG/Feinherb, few Grauburgunders and Blanc de Noir. There really are outstanding white wines here with great QPR.
Strongly recommend these ones....Dont know whether you can get any of these easily in post Brexit UK, but well worth looking out...2019 vintage was surerb but any vintage between 2015 and 2019 will serve you well

Fritz Haag is my personal favourite VFM Riesling maker...but there's a ton of choice

That looks great though I'm not sure about the logistics of importing from The Continent. I've always wanted to explore German wines.

Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Spatlese2018(six) 75 ducats at Costco online.Imho bargain.
If it's no good for you it might be good
for somebody.

Haven't seen Fritz Haag in UK shops yet, but a few other options on Vivino shipping within UK...prices are noticeably higher than in Germany but still well worth a try
The entry level Fritz Haag Riesling also there - not as good as the Brauneberger' but still a delicious crisp and balanced wine

Unfortunately, I remain deeply unimpressed by German reds - even the premium Pinot Noirs are average at best
Difficult to justify paying anything 'premium' for a German red, when surrounded by great value Tuscan, Piemont, Bordeaux and Rhone reds...

Most Brits can only name Blue Nun and Black Tower: both export only as revenge for the war.
Not sure what the Aussies were upset about when they made Fosters for us. Something cricket related perhaps.
A google will show there are too many good riesling producers to have an opinion on all. Trust the Germans to do everything consistently right.
Got into riesling relatively recently and it was triggered by Prum. Donnhoff, Clemens Busch and Schloss Lieser also all very good IMO.

Don’t forget Dr. Loosen. I know nothing about the good Doctor’s wine at all other than his name, but that is already way more than good enough.

German Riesling is fine but not as good as the real thing, obvs. I hadn’t mentioned it before as I thought the brief was German-only, but if that isn’t the case I suggest you ask @eternumviti nicely if he’ll let you have some of his Bruno Sorg Grand Cru Pfersigberg. Or if you are intimidated by his upmarket reputation you could always slum it and buy from Fortnums instead.

He makes really good wines. The only problems is that they're so drinkable, they're gone before you know it.
