They're lots of fun, I've no idea how the modern ones sound mind. Not much bass, they're like a big standmount, but what's there is great.

But on the later versions (6500 and 7000) the cd tray was a solid aluminum plate a few mm thick that popped out between the black and silver panels. Those are the ones to go for!

Many contemporary manufacturers selling some quite expensive CD players with a thin and flimsy plastic drawer should be shameful when they compare their stuff to this B&O machines !But on the latter versions (6500 and 7000) the cd tray was a solid aluminum plate a few mm thick that popped out between the black and silver panels. Speakers are Tannoy Berkeleys built in October 1975 according to the writing inside the cabinet, I'm the second owner, original owner bought them new in 1976.

That system looks like bags of fun to listen to, bet it just makes you want to drink it all in!
A lot of the appeal of B&O used to be the user interface and experience -- motion sensing motorized doors, disappearing buttons, smooth mechanical movements. With the shift to digital sources (servers and streaming, not CD) there isn't nearly as much opportunity to make components physically interactive. Kind of a shame.
