Elsdon Wonfor Audio LS-40 speaker cables

My home made competitors

Being amongst the first users of LS25s, (sold on when we moved due to being too long) I now use a cable by SAEC (a Japanese brand) it uses a new(ish) Triple-C conductor which is a further refinement of the PCOCC conductor.
Its design is patented by a subsidiary of the FURUKAWA brand (same factory as where EWA have there cables manufactured BTW)

Its been interesting so far; the LS-40's sound identical! to my current cables.
I'm confident the SAEC (SPC-850 with Xshadow spades) sound better than the LS-25's .

Imported the SAEC SPC-850 from here: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...0001&campid=5338728743&icep_item=283755394842
Used these to terminate with: https://www.hificollective.co.uk/catalog/xhadow-spades-pair-p-10324.html
This to solder them up with: https://www.hificollective.co.uk/catalog/mundorf-silver-solder-supreme-length-p-2741.html
All neatly dressed in this (9mm): https://www.hificollective.co.uk/sleeving/abs-expandable-sleeving.html
These heat shrinks (4.8mm & 9.5mm) https://www.hificollective.co.uk/sleeving/heat-shrink.html
And these splitters (12x5mm): http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...0001&campid=5338728743&icep_item=202957748339

A 2.5m pair cost me around £350-400 to build IIRC P&P from japan was only £20/30 then!

The EWA cable is not made by FURUKAWA but some of the conductors are.
The moulding/drawing tools for the cable and patents are owned by me and the cables are made in the UK, and not the same place as TQ as they did not have the skills to make the ceramic tools needed.

A few dropped out over the holidays and have been reinserted above, along with new faces and procrastinators. ;)

This trial/tour thingy is open to all, no need to have anything more than a passing interest in hifi and love for music. So long as you are an upstanding member of pfm (assuming we have such people)...

Simple rules:

1. Don't pinch the cable.

2. Be honest: post impressions/reviews (I would love to use some on https://ABCaudio.biz eventually). And don't pinch the cable.

3. Cover postage costs, preferably tracked. I can help with this if asked (UPS - usually a tenner or so).

4. Don't pinch the cable.

All good with me Alan! I’m also happy to be next on the list

@Cereal Killer if you can ensure the cables get to me soon after 23rd that would be ideal as I can only have lengthy listening times at the weekend.

@jan tomczak let me know when suits you best to receive them after me. I’m comparing existing LS25 to these new 40s so if the new ones are good - I expect to hear it very quickly

should be fun...

ex-brickie...i'm skipping the trail for the time being, (my amp is in germany undergoing minor surgery) i've let alan know btw.

Relax.... I'm in Cornwall
Anyway, I'm the one with the problem - I've got to post them back in time to the Bronzeage!

Not sure how to break this, but I am actually posting from the past (the actual Bronze Age), so you will need a time machine. The one I used kind of broke, all it can do is send internet traffic to the 21st century and provide power. I have received packages from Amazon, guess nothing stops them making a profit.

But surely that means that I've already posted them to you, and you are now fully responsible for their safe arrival to Darren L. Should they not arrive we'll have to arrange an amazon delivery of no doubt an amazonian to extract suitable recompense from you..

OK so a little update; (been a busy week) the LS-40 seams to portray a touch more energy on vocals and maybe a touch more lower end on certain acoustic recordings.
IF there are any differences they are so minor it’s really hard to be absolute about them.
The sound signature of the SAEC seams to be almost identical to the LS-40s.
On dynamic electronic music really can’t hear a difference, maybe on live/vocals I can. Difficult to say on any well recorded studio recordings.

IF I were to in the position of needing a new set of cables would buy the LS-40...... It would be a yes.
