Saturday Fun Favourite Drummers

I like drummers that have their own distinctive style or general sound.

My personal favourite is Ian Paice but some others for are;

Phil Collins
Buddy Rich
Jack DeJhonette
John Bonham
Keith Moon
Steve Judd
Manu Kachté
Lars Ulrich
Etc.

Just can't believe Carl Palmer hasn't got a mention. Anyway, I win.

And add these to the list.....

  • Pierre van der Linden
  • Simon Phillips
  • Florian Pilkington-Miksa
  • Bill Bruford
  • Neil Peart

....and we're starting to get somewhere.

Lenny White
Ryan Joost Van Poederooyen for his playing with the Devin Townsend Project
Anup Sastry
Mike Portnoy

I think mention should also be made of Bernard Purdue for amongst other things his work with Steely Dan

I asked my mate Adrian, who plays guitar in a semi-pro band, for his list:

John Bonham
Chad Smith
Bill Ward
Buddy Rich
Ginger Baker
Gene Kruper

Yea, love steve Jansens work. Maybe not the most technical in the traditional sense, but just so individual & melodic. He was definitely a major part of what made Japan such a great act.

Ian Paice
John Bonham
Michael Lee
Jerry Marotta
Manu Katche
Barrie Barlow
Keith Moon
Gerry Conway
Lee Kerslake

I forgot Keith Leblanc.

Odd, as I have loads of his albums. The man is a machine.

I remember going to an On-U night where he played a set. He finished, and I turned to a mate I was with and said "Do you realise we've essentially watched a 40 minute drum solo - and enjoyed it"
