Bargain Box Sets

Sorry this is not a box set and I have no idea what it sounds like as I hve not even heard it yet. However it has Denis Bovell at the production helm so it will sound good qulity . Brother Rico is playing trombone so the horn section is lilely to be stellar . Given the price I feel it is well worth a punt and would commend anyone else interested to grab it while it is still cheap .

I've recently bought some slightly left field box sets. Not left field in terms of artists, but in terms of period. One is Fleetwood Mac, Original Album Series. This is about 1970-74, so it is the end of the Peter Green period but pre Buckingham and Rumours. Christine McVie comes along half way through and you can hear the change. It's fascinating, and a period few people know. We all know Albatross and the bluesy stuff, everyone in the world has at least one copy of Rumours (cue somebody with his nose in the air trying to be superior saying "no, I've never owned Rumours. Or DSOTM. Or Born in the USA..." ) but who do you know who owns and plays "Bare Trees"?
This box has Bare Trees, Kiln House, Future Games, Then Play On, and Mystery to Me. The only album it lacks from this period is Penguin, which I recommend you buy seperately if you don't already own it. It's a great album, probably the best of this period.

Also in "Original Album Series" is some Jethro Tull. Again, I know, we all have Aqualung, but who's got Stormwatch? Maybe nobody needs a copy of Broadsword and the Beast. It's worth a go for £11 for 5 albums, at the very least you will hear stuff that you haven't heard before and that never gets played on the radio. Is it their best work? No, but you can hear where they come from and where they are going. It still won't make me rush to get out my copy of Crest of a Knave, but there you are.

Another in that vein is Traffic ( 5 classic albums) which I bought some time ago as my 'Low Spark of High Heeled Boys' was a bit rubbish. They are another strange group to pigeon hole as they came from folk/jazz backgrounds
£11 now but I paid £9.99

Quite a few in this series at around £10 or so. Though I would give Itzhak Perlman a miss :) :)

Not a sale price as such but a very competitive price for a quite hard to find box set this is the 9 CD Box Set of William Onyeabor the Nigerian Electric Funk Master who retired and has so far never produced another album . Also it seems that he has never ever been interviewed and spoken about his music . I love it and hope many others will give it a try . As far as I know this is all of the albums he released and in many cases they were never issued on CD till this box set .

It's a great boxset. I found it a couple of years back for about 12 quid on the 'zon.
Sadly he passed away a year or so back, so there won't be any more albums.

Nice short film about him:
