The rise of the far-right

^ Ha, its like he loves kicking himself in the head, read the response comments, I wonder if drumpf does?

^What a depressing read, especially as some in law enforcement would appear to be sympathetic to the alt-right. Laying the ground for a new civil war?

I don't find that surprising at all. People I know who have gone into law enforcement have an authoritarian bent, and I could easily see them taking on the role of Brown Shirts.

Exploitation of fears about immigration is part of the far-right's strategy. Here's Hope Not Hate's take on what a "sensible" conversation about immigration would look like, along with a summary of the report posted on the (ahem!) Progress website:

And a broadly sympathetic but critical reading of the above from the All that is Solid blog:

... it suggests that Labour is already on the right track to win back these communities. It can speak to the left behind in the clear language of industrialism, housing, and jobs. Going down the Blue Labour and addressing "genuine concerns" by pandering to them won't cut the mustard. Getting besuited Westminster types wrapping themselves in the flag and talking hard politics on immigration appears naff, insincere, and desperate. It would win over few, if any, socially conservative voters and succeed in alienating large swathes of the huge coalition we've built so far. You'd have to be really green to go blue.

Winning over left behind communities is not an over night task. Since 1979 they have grown used to having politics being done to them by successive governments of all party labels. Campaigning, community organising, and the right policies that speak to our people is the way of rebuilding trust, seeing off cynicism and combating the nihilistic turn to Toryism and the right. Contrary to the implications of the report, we need more Corbynism. Not less.

I'm wary about using the label "Corbynism" (Labour's trajectory is very much *not* about just one man) but, other than that, I think the above conclusion is spot-on.

There is lower than 50%, but significant risk, of 2 major things going wrong that will up-end economics and impact politics :
1. USA - China trade war causing a global recession like 2008. Ironically this time it may affect countries highly dependent on trade, like the UK, more than the USA which has a huge buoyant home market.
2. A No Deal/Hard Brexit which obviously will affect the UK more than any other country.

Either of these could tip the UK into recession but both together would be really serious.

He could do what he did before- try to enter on a false passport.
Yes, in 2013 Robinson was jailed after he entered the US illegally. Interesting that the republican members of Congress that Robinson was due to meet were so relaxed about teaming up with an illegal immigrant.

He could teleconference with them? (after they’ve got back from cross burning).
