Tidal Masters (MQA) using ChromeCast Audio

Theoretically it should also work with any DLNA/ UPnP capable streamer.

So no need to use Tidal's desktop app.

Thanks for this. I find it remarkable. Have I understood correctly please?
  • Does one cast from the Tidal phone app, or the Tidal web app, or the Tidal Windows ("desktop") application?
  • What is used for the UI for browsing/transport controls - the Tidal program, or the mconnect app?
  • Can this set-up manage pass-thu MQA, ie, pass the MQA stream to the DAC? Or is something upstream doing the first unfold and then passing the result of that though Chromecast to the DAC?
Thanks, Mark.

Hi Marc,

-One casts from the mconnect app;

-the UI is the mconnect app's;

-afaik it only works as MQA pass through so you need an MQA enabled DAC.

Hope this helps!

Wow.

- Gapless Playback by App and to UPnP renderers.

So it can play gapless, just like vinyl used to in the old days. It doesnt feel the need to include a random gap at the beginning or end of a track when one doesnt exist.

There's progress.

Audio nirvana maybe ?

Is it me, or does the above conversation sound a bit like a daytime TV commercial?
"Hi Mike, look what I got" "Wow, what is it?"

Gapless playback to UPnP renderers. Unfortunately, gapless does not work with Chromecast Audio.

I think that misterdog's post was quite ironic.

And it doesn't even apply to Chromecast Audio rendering...

I agree, and I agree with his sentiment too.

My remark about daytime tv though, was meant for you.
There are already a few other threads about MQA, so let's not start all that again.

I wrote my OP in August, before you were a well known member of Pinkfishmedia.

If you don't like it, report it to the Thought Police.

Or just bugger off.

And yet more daytime tv. :rolleyes:

But don't ya worry, I wear a Tin foil hat, so the thought police doesn't have access to my thoughts.

Perhaps this isn't new to you.

Just found that if you have an MQA enabled DAC the mconnect app allows you to use a Chromecast Audio as Tidal Masters (MQA) streamer:

Thanks very much. Nice to be able to play masters without having to plug a usb cable in my laptop

Well worth paying for this one.

There is a lite free version that doesn't work as well (e.g. 24/352.8 doesn't run smoothly) but it's good enough for a simple test.
