Your Loudspeaker history...

Epos ES14 (in the 1980s when Black Ash furniture was all the rage)
JR 149
Dynaudio Contour 1.1 (purchased for wall-mounting when the kids were young and an astonishing speaker)
PMC Fact.8 (only because the wife liked the look of them)
Harbeth SHL5+ (uncompromising neutral sound for a vast range of music, low volume performance and miles better than the Fact.8)

That covers about 30 years

Tannoy 609 mkII's: A bit "dry" for my taste these days but I really enjoyed them at the time.
Bose Acoustimass 5: still in service in 2nd system and work very well for what they are.
Acoustic Energy Radiance 1: Very neat little speakers and looked nice and unobtrusive too.
Sonus Faber Cremona standmounts (auditor): Kinda dark / warm but amazingly lush midrange.

Since around 1979 to current:

MCS something or other
Pioneer HPM-40
Bose 301

Shahinian Larc-current

Along with a host of other speakers that have been listened to in-house for periods of time, but not officially "owned".

Bloody hell, do you own a second hand hifi shop?

I'm feeling inadequate, I've been using the same speakers for the best part of 20 years.

@Stunsworth: Then you are much smarter then me. ;)
I love to try and test stuff, but sometimes it feels like a addiction disease.

Reading through the lists that some people have compiled makes me think that some people change their speakers as often as most people change their underpants. Speakers take time to break in if bought brand new which begs the question why buy a speaker only to move it on after such a short time. I will not live long enough

Worth noting that many of us here have been doing this rather a long time! At 52 I'm very far from the oldest here, but even so I've been doing it for over 36 years as I started just before my sixteenth birthday! Many of us have more than one system too, e.g. I have three on the go in different rooms (Lockwood Tannoys, Klipsch La Scalas and JR149s), so that all adds to the potential for ins and outs. Another factor for me is that is that earlier in life I moved about a lot and I often found stuff that worked in one context/room was far less good in another. These days you may be able to fix some if that with digital room correction etc, but it certainly doesn't appeal to all.

First speakers that weren't made from fruit crate panels were not much more aspirational - two 1.0m sections of 150mm diameter ceramic sewer pipe (25mm thick walls). One end was belled to allow male-to-female jointing and the inside diameter of the belled end was just right to accept a 6" dual-cone Philips driver bedded down on a resilient "washer".

The sewer pipes were fitted with "stabilisers" to the non-flared ends and stood with the belled end pointing at the ceiling and the wiring routed out of the base.

These were driven by a really crappy Philips amp/turntable combo.

Next, came a pair of 2-way bookshelf speakers from the German manufacturer Dual (of turntable fame) and were driven by a slightly better integrated (also Philips due to student budget). These Dual speakers were well-made with a rosewood veneer and two decent drivers per cabinet and that amp probably never gave them an opportunity to really shine - but they were a pleasant listen. (Can't find anything on the web)

After having worked for a while and saved, the next was a complete system replacement:

- Thorens TD160C/TP-16 with a Shure M75ED MM cartridge
- Teac A350 Dolby B cassette deck
- B&O Beolab 5000 integrated
- Kef Cadenzas

This system stayed for ~25 years.

Next speakers? Tannoy 613 floorstanders

Two years later? Tannoy D700s (still in use 20 years later)

Second study system assembled via classifieds included a pair of Chario Syntar 516 bookshelf speakers.

And that will probably be that...

Hand-me-down DIY 2 ways - They made a noise

Goodmans RB65 - These could rattle the windows on the end of an Amstrad EX330

Mordaunt Short Pageant II - these were my first properly auditioned purchase. Won a shootout with some KEF and Mission price equivalents that were well reviewed at the time. Still own and use these on the end of Nytec 202

Naim Intro II - chosen when I updated my 80's system to an all Naim set. Still in use on the end of an nVi for general listening

Naim Allae - replaced the Intro II's in my main significantly upgraded system

Naim SL2's - about to replace the Allaes after 9 years of loyal service :)
