Yes, they're the X-Stats. Very fine indeed, and spellbinding with orchestral stuff, though as I type this I'm listening to Talking Heads.

System-wise the breakthrough for me was getting a Sanders Magtech: 500WPC and totally unstoppable.

Despite all the FDAC excitement, this thread still has M-DAC in the title. With that in mind, may I introduce you to my new 3-rail LPS? A while ago Swagman were offering something similar for around £240; mine is £40, but a lot of sweating over wiring and mechanical problems( thanks, misterdog, for the advice to use M3 woodscrews…) It looks like this:

OK, I just had the box around(retired Humax 9200T PVR. if the link fails to work), and it was big enough to take a pair of Calexes, comes with switch and fan( not yet activated). Inside views only fter I have tidied it up from the present rat’s nest.
It certainly makes the M-DAC sound very sweet. I can’t yet be sure that it’s better than the 2-rail version, since it has been a long time since I heard that, but I will try to incorporate a changeover switch to check.

Well I'd sure like to OD on a room full of X-Stats :)

Mix -n- Match I say, 2 Quad ESL 1ML ESL :D

Are those biscuits next to the PC? Do you prefer any particular type when listening to music? Do they affect the SQ? ;)

I love the B/W picture, if it where not for the Laptop and Flat screen TV it could be a from the 60's :)

British homes have the "bay" windows, you don't really see them in mainland Europe :)

I wonder if a pair of Martin Logan CLS 11z 20th Anniversary would be an upgrade over the summit x ML panels ?

What is the ISO Magic like John? I've got one here I've never used. Keep meaning to get an optical cable for it.

For Mid Range and Highs yes, but they have Zero practical bass - it would drive you nuts...!

The CLS are a odd speaker, in some rooms they work REALLY well - and nothing comes close, but sadly in others they sound like a telephone handset...

The Aeons that a I use as a more "normal" amplifier load seem to work in almost any room.

I recently bought one from Ebay as Its one of my favorite designs - while I've not yet had a chance to compare against the MDAC (as its only Single ended output and I only have balanced cables also no preamplifier) I suspect its better then the MDAC in certain areas.

Its certainly my favorite design by far for Cambridge Audio - very underrated....

Heres one on my lab Bench ATM with Fred's HDCD chip under test:-

You can use with just a BNC / optical SPDIF, make sure the little silver toggle switch on the rear is flipped in the up position if your not clock-locking it to a suitable CD transport.

Fred,

Sorry for the delay. your HDCD IC is genuine - tested in an IsoMagic I recently purchased from Ebay (one of my designs from 1999) - its scary how time flys!
Thank you John for taking the time and testing my PMD100!!
So the source @ DIYaudio seams to be OK ;-)

This link now works but we wish to see inside !

That's good news, I also got one from the same vendor.

Do you think it is worth testing?

Probably OTT, but just wondering if a fake one could potentially cause any damage ?
