Gromit, lookin' at your pics some feeling of regret starts to get back on me. (sold my CB Nait 2 last year)

I like Gromit's small variation/repetition its a mix of Warhol and Claude Monet a response to a avant garde en plein air audiophilie with retro gear. Subtle variations each time. Me Like.

The old styling looked like nothing before or after really. Quite visionary. Or maybe I am nostalgic.

I think it's a decent amount of both, Fox. :)

For me, growing up through my 'hifi youth' in the late 70's/early 80's (ie mid-late teens) CB Naim was just large a part of that and looks fresh now - as so many utterly simple designs still do.

Alco - whilst the Naimistas would consider it heresy, I think the reversed-CB-sleeve looks great. I may even try it on my little boxes soon. :)

Here's the hotch potch system from the "messy room", basically my bolt hole!

A trusty Claymore driving things along.

Agreed, it's timeless design. The 'big knob' shoebox stuff (42, 62, HiCap) and full-width power amp (250,160) being the best of it aesthetically IMO.

OMG Gromit's, that's pure HiFi porn! What a beautiful pic of the classic CB Nait 2. :) (one of my alltime favorite pieces of HiFi)

I recently swapped my old Target stands for a (demo) pair of partington Dreadnought stands.
Also, after a 3 days home audition I bought myself a (demo) Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6.

Alco,

how are you getting on with the CA Stream Magic 6, both from a sound quality and user interface POV? What did you use before?

Cheers,
Samuel.

Hi Samuel,

Well,...to be honest,...I just arrived back home 30 minutes ago, after returning the SM6 back to my dealer.

I had the chance to audition it at home, starting on monday evening, 4 days ago.
During the first 2 days I was delighted with it, and thought I'd finally found a worthy replacement for my trusty 'old' Squeezebox Touch.

I've been reading quite a lot of bad reviews about the SM6 app, and during my first 2 days I didn't understand why.
But then...Yesterday evening it happend...:(

All of a sudden the app showed several issues... :(
like, when a track was playing, and I wanted to get back to 'Artist', the screen went blue, with the message loading for minutes!!

After that, many more app issues suddenly showed up.
Today,...the same issues again, with the continues 'loading' issue being the most annoying one.

So, after 3 bad app experiences in hardly 4 days I decided I stick to my trusty Squeezebox Touch (with BoTW PSU upgrade) and the very stable Ipeng controll app.
(The Ipeng still is THE control-app to beat imho)

Too bad, as the SM6 looks much better than the el-cheapo SBT, and when the app works I have to confess it's rather good and very intuitive! :)
(I even prefered the SM6 app to Naim's n-stream!)

what is the my little pony crap? My daughter had those in the 80's and I fail to see the relationship twixt a horse and hifi.

Well Gromit, I only tried it once with my CB Nait 2 and for a short moment I prefered it (referring to it as 'Classic Black' instead of 'Chrome Bumper') :D

Most of the time though I had the CB sleeve the way it's supposed to.
It's nice to have a choice though. Imho, CB stuff always looks coool.

Thx for your detailed reply, Alco.

While I think it's getting hard to build a really bad sounding DAC or streamer in 2014, it all comes down to the quality of the user interface and the software.

I admit that with Linn's Kinsky I am using for my Akurate DS, it wasn't exactly love at first sight, but after using it for a while and getting my head round it it's actually pretty good (and stable).

As for the media server on my NAS, I am using Minim Server, not Linn's own Song Box, as the former allows your collection to be sorted according to artist (A-Z), and within an artist, the albums are sorted according to release date (i.e. how every sane person would sort their album collection :)). I am still baffled that Linn does not provide that view, but in their defense, they build their systems in an open way, so you can use pretty much any media server and any control point.

Cheers,
Samuel.

Everything is connected, if you look deep enough

It is a thing to hold a thought and in that thought holds a question and in that question is a perception that enacpsulates a perception, which avoids idle speculation...

Or probably
Just possibly
none of the above.
if you don't look deep enough

Incidentally I like this trend for monochrome images, it is very restrained and almost states the "retro intent" behind the composing. Is there a connection between black and white (well, shades of grey) photography and posting on a forum?

Funny as that one really doesn't do it for me, the subject of the depth of field lacks interest. On the other hand I really like Martin's first one, now that really holds my attention in a good way.

717 posts and you ask this. Do you only post in DIY (which is admittedly not Pony-free)? PFM=Pony Fetish Mania recently/as long as I've lurked
