Keesonic Speakers anyone?

Those will be the ones I had!

I think there are at least a few PFM members who have owned that particular pair!

They worked brilliantly in my small kitchen and I sold them for a pretty stupid reason really, still my loss was Hoopsontoast's gain.

For years I've been trying to remember the name of a pair of amazing speakers I had in the late 70s. Bought them in a shop in Swansea I seem to recall. They were hooked up to an Armstrong 626 amp and a Trio KD1033B tt and an Akai GX46D cassette deck. Always remember that they were incredible speakers for their size. Saw this thread and they were Kubs. Won't forget again. (Odd how I can recall the model number of the cassette deck but not the speakers).

Pete

Would that Swansea Shop be John Ham's?

It was my system with the Kolts, love them! Never selling them (again) ;)

If you have any more details on the Kolt or Ranger I would be interested, I have an original sales brochure of the time with the Kub/Super Kub, KBM, KRF, Ranger, and Kolt.
I believe that the Ranger uses the same Seas 11G-FX and tweeter combo out of the Kolt with the 10" bass driver out of the others in the range?

You have PM

Peter Keeley just told me he has a lot of spares for his range of speakers
also diags , tweaks esp for the KUBS ,ever heard of the 701A ?
he is coming to my house in the next few weeks so any enquiries , let me know

Wow, that's just brilliant! Peter Keeley = Top man! Thanks Hoops.

Check out the grill on that KBM! Some proper speakers on show here.

Now feeling the need for a little Kub system, especially after seeing the quality veneers on show!

So what would be a good vintage amp to pair with some of these then?

I thought Keesonic might be more 70s?

Perhaps ZPE could find out some general information like production dates and numbers, drive units used and what equipment or systems Mr Keeley recommended to use with his speakers?

Some of the larger standmounts have quite serious recommended requirements, up to 150w.

Quad 405s? I wonder what else was available at the time.

(I could easily end up with groovy curtains, a big rubber plant and huge standmounts at this rate - I've been sold!)

p.s. It's a rather nice Kolt he is holding in that photo!

I bought some 'speakers from him in 1974 or '75 for use in Outside Broadcast vehicles. They were probably the precursors to the Kub or Kolt.

At the same time for a different OB van I bought some small active 'speakers from a little company operating above a shop in Salisbury, but I can't remember the naim.

The factory was only a mile from me so it's a shame that I haven't got any. A long time since I heard them so I guess I ought to look out for some for sale.

Sure is! I thought Keesonic were late 70's early 80's.

I would love a pair of the Rangers, going by the Kolts, they look to have the same mid/tweeter.

I had both Kubs and Superkubs for a while on the end of my A&R A60...... Aah, heady days......

......daren't think of the money I've spent since then!

i now pete keeley very well , i will ask him , he still has some drive units and tweaked crossovers

ZPE I did send you a PM

Would be very interested in tweaks for the Kub and if Peter has any Bass drivers

The Kolt driver was a scandinavian unit , i asked pete , he was going to dig some out
the Kub driver was a custom built unit made by Elac , they are not building any more , i was going to get all the specs and crossover details for all his speaker range , the best he ever made was the limited edition the 701A
Peter Keeley died august 31 2012 , he will be sorely missed

That's really sad. He was a lovely man.
