Modified the above (very, very nice)
SqueezebBox3, no more CDs
Monica2 DAC on the way.
Listened to loads of other stuff along the way and the only one which was clearly better rather than just different in some way or other was an Esoteric X-03se. One day...
1989-2000: Sony something-something. My first player was nothing special I guess, but it served me well.
2000-2002: Pioneer DV-525 dvd player. Before hifi paranoia really struck.
2002-2004: Rega Planet (MkI) - excellent player in my book, esp. @ s/h prices.
late 2004 - early 2005: Denon something-something. Needed something cheap after divorce. Guess it was ok-ish ...
2005-present: Arcam Alpha 5 (serviced) - fine player for my requirements. I suspect this will be my last cd player.
1984/85 B&O CDX and Mission DAD7000R - showed me that CD had a future...
1985 Meridian MCD-Pro - first purchase
1987 Meridian 207
1999 Deltec PDM1 mk2 with loads of loan CD players as transports
1992 Teac VRDS 10 - AVI DAC - very good indeed but not quite as good as:-
1993 AVI S2000CD Reference (still working well after drawer cog replacement)
1994 Micro-Seiki CD-M2 - 1988 vintage, better to use than AVI and still sounds better than most under £3K and floors Naim CDX models with power supply...
Nakamichi CDP3E (?): mid-priced Nak cd player with curious blurb in the owner's manual that the design goal was purely to produce the most musical player possible with no consideration for features at its price point. This $300US player beat my LP-12 on quite a few disks. I kept quiet and did alot of chin-stroking.
Naim CD3 and 3.5: Exactly what you'd expect of a Naim cd player. Huge bags of fun with most disks and when you hit a dog--really bad. Highly recommended if transports are available.
Naim CDS mk1: The most misunderstood Naim product ever made imo. Trashes an LP-12 on most disks I've tried but only if placed upon the right surface. This thing makes any other hifi device seem impervious to vibration it is just that sensitive.
Naim CDS mk2: Only used so far with a CDPS (not the intended XPS power supply.) The next evolutionary step of the original CDS. Tonal colors, reduced distortion and increased dynamics are added to the original's arsenal without drawbacks so far. An added bonus is the player's ability to randomly access tracks reliabily..a feature lost with the mk1's transport several months after purchase.

Late comer to CD around 1995
First was a CD Walkman by Technics

Next was a Mission DAD 7000 ~ a secondhand buy & had this for 11 years or so still have it & only recently updated by)
Yamaha CDX 880 which I think is very very good
I think I've had too many cd players to remember them all (though most weren't that memorable).
My very first cd player (some mid-80s Hitachi thing I bought for $20 at (after?) the end of its useful life) burned a hole through one of my cds. I'm still not sure how it happened, but after that I was careful to remove the disc as soon as it ended.
