Pretty sure they are USSR-era Russian, though I can’t recall the brand.

Tony is correct - they are the original speakers from the Rigonda Symphony radiogram and date from the late 1960s/early 1970s

I ran a pair as main speakers for many years in my early 20s - they're very good indeed.

I saw a pair of these Rigondas advertised locally a while back and wondered about them. Good to know that you rate them @Beobloke ...not that I need another large pair of speakers!

What's the marble effect (plastic?) thing in one of the shots?

It’s a plastic cover used to enclose the midrange driver.

Its size, shape and profile always suggested to me that it would make a fine Christmas Pudding bowl if all else failed…
