What's the difference...

...between an 'symmetrical power supply' and an 'asymmetrical power supply'?

I'm building a couple of Velleman K4700 kits and the text mentions I have to figure out which type of PSU I have (Transformer, diodes, Big CAPS, VBE regulator board, NCC200, speaker -> smile!)

The life of four resistor depends on your answers :)

Cheers

Bright idea...is one a switching PSU and the other a linear one?

And then I googled and found a link.

You have a symmetrical supply if it is centre tapped earth?

If supply wires are either side of 0v.

Mark,

I have the two secondary windings' centres connected to the 0v between the two PSU caps, by passing the rectifier, so I'm sure it's symmetrical.

Thanks
