Wharfedale 'E' series. Value?

... The listener always decides in the end.
True, as you stated -opinions can be influenced. Currently those plastic cones are in fashion. It'll probably take years to convince the mass paper is the better cone for detailed reproduction. Listening alone isn't enough ;)

Yes, it's to each his own I guess too. Some really like those 30 year old Tannoy 12 inch and 15 inch units and call their reproduction precise and delicate. To me they're quite boring lacking dynamics and both low and high end extention ;)

That wasn't meant as a put-down, I use Klipsch KG3's for the very same reason, when I am in the mood, raw, visceral excitement....and at low volume with my TVA 1X or Cayin K88t...sheer heaven..but I have to be in the mood..but to say the Wharfedale E70's are Yamaha NS 1000M killers is bending the curve a bit, I have owned and heard both, each has its own merits..but if the only two set of speakers left in existence were these two it would be the Yams in a heartbeat..:)

WHARFEDALE E RANGE - E30'S WERE OWNED IN THE 70'S BY RANK HI-FI, BRADFORD. I HAVE OWNED ROGERS, TANNOY, KEF, CELESTION, LINN ETC AND NEVER HEARD SUCH AN AMAZING SPEAKER! THE E-30'S WERE IN MY OPINION THE BEST IN THE RANGE, I HAVE 5 PAIRS ALL STILL BOXED AND LIKE BRAND NEW! THE BIGGEST COLLECTION IN THE WORLD NO DOUBT AT OVER 30 YEARS OLD AND THEY ARE STILL MODERN AND BETTER SOUNDING THAN MOST SPEAKERS OF TODAY! YES E STANDS FOR EFFICIANCY (NOT ECHONEMY) THESE WERE DESIGNED TO BE ABOVE ALL THERE COMPETITORS IN 1979, IN FACT THEY SPENT THAT MUCH ON THE SOLID 1 PIECE ALLOY CHASIS AND CUTTING IT ALMOST SENT THEM UNDER! THEY LATER PRODUCED (IN 1982) AN E-45 WHICH WAS A CHEAPER PRESSED STEEL SPEAKER WITH AN ALLOY SURROUND (AWFUL) MAKE NO MISTAKE - THESE ARE THE BEST YOU WILL EVER HAVE - RE-LISTEN TO THEM IF YOU HAVE A SET (DONT FORGET ALL SPEAKERS SOUND DIFFERENT ON HOW HIGH, WHERE AND IN DIFFERENT ROOMS - YOU NEED TO EXPERIMENT A LITTLE! IF ANYONE HAS ANY E-RANGE I WILL GLADLY COLLECT THEM AS I SPECIALISE IN MAKING ANY SPEAKER CABS LOOK LIKE NEW IN ANY COLOUR OR NO MATTER HOW KNOCKED ABOUT THEY ARE! GET IN TOUCH

THESE WERE VERY EXPENSIVE IN THERE TIME AND PRODUCED 1979 - 81 BEFORE ALLOY BECAME TOO EXPENSIVE! I BELIEVE SINCE THEN THEY WENT DOWN HILL AS A COMPANY. THE NUMBER 30 STANDS FOR INTERNAL CABINET AIR SPACE (IN LITRES)

I OWN 20'S - 30'S 50'S 70'S AND 90'S AND HAVE MOST SPARES (MAINLY 30'S) - 30'S WERE THE BEST OF ALL BRIGHT BUT PUNCHY :)

HOPE THIS HELPS
