Westminster sexual harassment scandal

It is normal for ministers to 'step down' if they are being investigated as a result of a serious allegation.
iiuc this is because the allegation becomes a mega distraction, so they can't do their job properly.
Perhaps he refused to step aside pending the investigation, so was dismissed?
fwiw I'm not suggesting Sargent, or the allegations, were treated satisfactorily. Let alone well.

Do you have a source to cite re: his state of mind please?
I had a rummage a couple of days ago, but failed to find anything.

Haven’t seen Damian Green standing down have we?

It's a fair point, but we currently don't have a normal Westminster government insomuch as it's very weak and semi-leaderless.
May has lost two ministers in a week. Could she afford a third?

So doing the correct, moral thing only matters when expedient?

An illustration of how shallow society has become if ever there was one.

I agree a proper investigation was needed, but that's very difficult when the alleged perpetrator kills themselves asap.
And a potentially handy deflection/mis-direction tool for those attempting to avoid justice.

Sargent's suspension may seem forward to some, but these situations are complicated.
For example if someone accused of sexual assault at work is allowed to remain in post during the investigation there's a risk the alleged perpetrator will offend again.
If this happened the employer would bear responsibitily for exposing the victim to a known risk.

This is why accused teachers are sent home until the investigation reaches its' conclusions.

Over a 35 year teaching career I have known several teachers and a head who were sent home under such suspensions.

One went to court and the judge threw out the case calling his accuser a malicious liar.

Their careers never recovered though.

I'm not condoning this! Just pondering why D.G. is still in post.
Perhaps pron on a work computer isn't as serious as multiple allegations of sexual assault?
If the allegations are true presumably only his device and gentleman vegetables are at risk of further abuse.

When I posted "this is why accused teachers are sent home until the investigation reaches its' conclusions" wasn't specifically referring to sexual assaults.
A teacher at my local was recently suspended for six weeks while an allegation that he "made a pupil (age 14) cry"!
fwiw no wrong doing was found, and his career appears unaffected (source = Mrs, who is on t'parent council).

You were a head teacher, so did you ever investigate serious complaints against staff?

Can Damian Green survive after this?

"Pornography described as extreme found on the deputy prime minster's computer would have been illegal if it had been discovered just weeks later, it has been claimed.

The computer was seized in a raid on the deputy PM's office in November 2008 during an inquiry into government leaks.

Some images found on the system were said to be so vile that police took advice from the CPS on whether to prosecute.

A source close to the investigation told the Sun: 'Porn was being accessed on an almost virtual daily basis. Police were told nothing could be done.

'Quite simply, it was not illegal to be in possession of extreme images before January 2009.

I like the way the Daily Mail suddenly becomes a reputable news source when it's reporting something anti-Tory.

Are you not dying to know if Dacre had to take himself in hand in his executive karzi when he accessed Damien's Green's stash?

I’d not trust it in any scenario. I’ve not visited the link and I can only assume they are going after Green as they want to tip this precarious and floundering government further to the far-Brexit-right of Dacre etc.

Dacre has broken off from his unending war on Labour to pursue the enemies within. Kompromat on Green- who's next and which of their vices will Dacre expose? I think it's going to be much worse than the troll Sarah Vine going after their fitted kitchens.

If they can't find anything they'll just make it up, as they did with the Cameron pig's head nonsense (which, of course, most of the left-wingers on here lapped up because, well, Cameron went to Eton, innit?)

The Cameronian porkfest allegations came from within his own party- from the noble Lord he failed to promote and the plastic Barbie ghost writer from the DM. That's what made it so delicious- the sight of them devouring their own again. I wasn't the only allegator either btw.

And the story continues to have legs because no action has been taken by call me Dave against the writer or publisher.

It happened at Oxford, not Eton, and Cameron has never denied it. You need to do a bit more research from your right-wing perch.

Dave gets off with stickin his wazoo in a pork butchery item but Damien Green is investigated by the police just for takin a peep online?
What would Mary Whitehouse do?
