Given how relatively common it is for murder to be committed by a victim's husband or wife, why not have a headline like this: THOUSANDS SLAUGHTERED BY THEIR SPOUSES. THE SUN SAYS END MARRIAGE NOW

Listening to Roger Alston, executive editor of The Times on R4 Today just now. He sounded every inch the Wapping huckster he is, "we don't tell lies, we don't invade people's privacy"
- trotted out in the faux chummy tones of an old Fleet Street boozer. It was almost as if he didnt expect anyone to believe him, putting on a show for which Murdoch had given him the script. I know the reputation of The Times has sank badly in years of Murdoch ownership (demographic would seem to be Daily Mail readers on the make) but ths guy is a disgrace to the title.

Meanwhile, the only actual outcome has been to hinder Private Eye's efforts to expose wrong-doing in Fleet Street and elsewhere. Trebles all round!
