The inventor of stereo (and H2S radar)..

Worth noting that the idea of Stereo was formed when watching a film, not when listening to music at home.

The idea of stereo seems so remarkably simple.

I agree, like many great developments they are simple with hindsight.

One of the true heroes of electronics.
Not only stereo (binaural) but RADAR, the long-tailed pair and instrumental in realising electronic TV.

His son used to run a music shop in Petersfield as a retirement hobby.

I met his son a few times when I lived in the area. Nice shop, he had a couple of Quad systems in the shop, a full 66 system with ESL63s upstairs which, if you asked nicely, you could listen to CDs on and a Quad 77 integrated and a pair of Rogers LS3/5as in the shop, not sure what the source was.

The film representing Biraunial Sound for patent was fascinating and I loved those clipped English accents!
