System pics 2012 #2

Was just wondering regarding new speakers how long in general it takes for the wood to stop fading to its natural colour.
the reason im asking is that im leaving the grills off for now to stop markings round where the grill would be if in place.
is this a silly how long is a piece of string question ? bearing in mind we are not exactly having blazing sunlight streaming through the windows at present !

Hi mate
Not sure the colour ever really stops changing/maturing. It may slow down after a while, but never fully stops.
Seeya next friday.
BIG game to get up for on Sunday!

Hi David,

Put the grills on at night :p

I spoke to ProAc who said the usual "how long is a piece of string", but 6-12 months (depending on the light) is a reasonable period without grills, but they will continue to get slightly darker and you don't want panda eyes

Beautiful. By chance I saw a CJ 14 Preamp open and having its tubes replaced yesterday. I thought the workmanship and layout inside looked excellent.

Enjoy

My Ripping station, made up of old and new. The new is the latest Berning (replacing the ZH270) and a rather lovely Benz Ebony L. The analogue rig is used these days almost exclusively for archiving. I use Pure Vinyl and store the albums as single files without track breaks.

Speakers are currently these

Sadly soon to depart as the dealer and I fell out so I requested a refund. I would rather listen to something else than put money in his pocket.

Like your system. Very thoughtful combination. How do you like the new Berning? I still have an old EA230 his first amp.

merlin, how does the SME work on the Grand Prix? I've heard the Monaco can't be a bit wobbly, but your configuration would seem to alleviate that problem, if it exists. Thanks.

Thanks Clay. The newer Berning seems to my ears to be just that little more cultured and civilized than the old ZH270. It seems less variable too (lower output impedance) into different loudspeakers but is obviously limited in terms of real power.

Lovely amps really. It reminds me why I went back to passive speakers. I have the pre here at the moment too.

Gordon I really can't say at the moment as I've yet to try it on anything else. There is certainly plenty of isolation but that should be inherent in the deck.

I have a BCD1100 which I intend assembling at some point and using that for comparison purposes. Rather heavy though.

I did try the Monaco in normal configuration and it really doesn't move with 55kg of tt sitting on the top.
