Surge Protectors - What's this going to be?

These sound suspiciously like a Superclamp alternative for 99p.

Curiosity got the better of me and I snapped up the 5 the chap had.

Any thoughts (other than the old adage about a fool and his money)?

the plug cost about 30p and its fitted with a VDR (I think) which cost next to nothing , does it work , who knows until its tested. I wouldnt use it in my HiFi though.
