Rega arms old and new

Around £200 will buy a new RB220, a used 250 souped up by J7, or a used 300, maybe 303 if I’m patient. Is there a clear winner out of those?

I've not heard the J7 (or know who he is), but I have owned the 300, 301, 303, 250, 600, 700 and a 303 rewired with the latest wiring by Rega. I can tell you that the latter is by far the best, so Rega have massively improved their wiring. Don't underestimate the latest designs.

I've contacted a seller of an RB300 on AoS, hopefully that'll come off, and I'll see about rewiring later.

J7 is Johnny at Audio Origami. Did a lovely job on a fiddly Thorens arm for me and charged almost nothing, so I'm keen to throw some business his way.
