Project debut? Deck motor not working

Hi folk

My aged Mum's barely used project debut (?) deck does not work anymore.

She wants it working because of all her lovely records. You have to love that!

Anyway, the deck is receiving electricity - (the speed change bit is lit up)

But the platter does not turn when switched on. It does twitch sometimes though. I have tried encouraging movement with a gentle hand turn but no proper motor driven turning happens.

Any advice is welcome.

Regards

Mike

Buy my Rega RP1 motor, bearing, platter, switch and all the gubbins in Classifieds, cheap, and stick it on. It'll work then.

Alternatively you can sort out the fault, which is probably the capacitor that provides the phase shift to make the motor turn.

But I'm serious about the Rega bits. You can even have the plinth if you want.

I can't remember if the speedbox uses the same walwart PSU as decks supplied without the speedbox, if it does (will be 16v AC output), plug it directly into the deck and see what happens. If it turns then the speedbox is not working corretly.

If it doesn't turn then it'll be a dead phase shift cap or a dead motor.

Also as Avole mentioned, it could be the belt, less likely though. If the belt were worn, I'd expect slow startup and poor speed stability, the motor would still be turning just fine.
