What about someone like Schaeffer? I’ve used them before for custom front panels and one enclosure (granted it was just a std box):

https://www.schaeffer-ag.de/en/products/machine_parts/

It won’t be cheap, but if it gets you all a product delivered then the extra cost might be worth it?

I'm in favour of this sort of approach, after all I don't expect costs to match mass produced items. A specialist engineering company to manufacture a small run of high quality chassis to meet our requirements.

And electrically - from an RFI point of view - the aluminium or steel doesn't need to be at all thick. Certainly not as thick as that on the Detox prototype, the gauge of which I guess was chosen for the weighty feel of the unit more than for the RFI shielding afforded.

Its be a shame to live with cosmetic imperfections, but if its just "cosmetic" then its workable, I worry about miss-tapped holes - we have many many fine thread screws on the underside...

However, we are committed to the Detox, so we have to move forward.

I suspect we will open the first production batch "risk order" for those who are prepared to accept the risk - the others can sit back and decide once they see the outcome of the first production.

I will accept a risk order. I will even install some screws (60 IIRC) assuming the holes line up if that helps and the circuitry has been checked for proper operation.

Yes the MiniStreamer - on the lab bench as we test the APi :)

I have 20pcs (not the highest quality) Chassis for the Ministreamer "in stock" :)

This approach is also OK with me.

I think the main problem with the chassis discussion is that is is all a bit too academic because we do not have any hard facts to compare with.
Price, quality and time wise.

It would be nice to have a ball park number for what it would cost to get the chassis produced in Europe.

It might be acceptable or not. At least it would put an end to the speculations ;)

Wow - MiniStreamer being debugged :)

I am sure the chassis will be good enough for the Ministreamer.
Remember that commercial products at it's price or more also does not have fantastic looking chassis.
So don't worry. :)

I'll even fit the screws myself if the holes don't line up - I'll just drill new holes or use different screws. Let's just get the thing done.
IIRC from the pics provided some time ago, not a lot of room for extra holes but I would agree.

I am OK with (W)anting (I)t (M)ore (P)rofessional :) but YOU could ask John for the pieces and assemble your own with a more vintage look...

A detox chassis as per the intended version would cost you in the hundreds of pounds in Europe, maybe under £200 per in Eastern Europe. In the UK it would £1,000 and a f_ck off unless you wanted 100's made.

"The 20 Pcs. VFET amps will be made at a specialist CNC vendor and at a crazy price..."

care to elaborate [VFET cost increase or decrease ?], I gave up following this thread regularly a while ago, from what I see in last 2 pages you at least reference VFET but have not clarified anything

frankly I'm disgusted at the lack of info to someone who has bankrolled you to the tune of nearly £3k [full spec Fdac, 2x Detox and pair of VFETS] and received SFA

don't even get me started on what I think, seeing all your current efforts apparently being spend on products I have zero interest in.

Stephen,

Sorry, I'm REALLY NOT IGNORING ANYONE - I'm BUSY working on production and when I have a moment (like eating meals) I sit in front of the PC and try to browse the latest postings - | didn't get back far enough to see your post. I'm sorry I CANNOT be expected to reply to everypost - sometimes I just dont see them.

As I work on production I"m not near a computer - maybe for the best part of the day, When I am its just to search for something or order parts - not free time to browse the forum.

There is no cost increase for the VFET's - I was answering a question WRT Detox CNC chassis costs, the Chassis for the VFETS are to be manufactured by a CNC specialist with no intention of larger numbers.

I hope that you can appreciate that getting the MiniStreamer / DevDAC manufactured are steps in the right direction to producing Detox, DAC's and the VFET's.

Detox is the next in the queue after the Streamer Beta units.

I think Stephen must have read the bit where you said you were retired. He's not asking for anything unreasonable is he? You do answer the complimentary posts very quickly to be fair.

Yeah, not the most elegant or reassuring response to put Stephen’s mind at ease... I know you have said in the past you find writing a challenge, but the man feels like a mug and you’re replying with CAPS LOCK.

You need to work on putting yourself in the shoes of your supporters given how much slack you get.

Yes its far to say I have been retired from working in the industry since 2011 - there is no secrete about this, since then I've been researching and developing the new designs within the thread - which are not intend to be mass market but rather specialized bespoke designs that will keep me busy in retirement.

It be crazy to think that I'm investing so much into small bespoke production not to be intending to deliver the promised designs, although they well have developed somewhat from the original conception - that can only be expected and is the very definition of development.

Beta units will start shipping within the next two weeks - whats important is that they are a the product of this research and development and have been manufactured by ME here in the lab. These first designs pave the way for Detox, MDAC2, VFET then FDAC.

I'm afraid I REALLY haven't been visiting PFM much recently (which you might have noticed) - instead I'm MOSTLY posting short updates on the FB group with the manufacturing progress etc. Writing this short message has taken me over 20 minutes... its 4am in the morning... while with facebook I can just rattle of a few lines in a minute or two just to keep people updated.

While I'm working on production, I'll have even less time to post here - so I really do recommend FB as away to keep abreast on how things are progressing - and PLEASE DONT presume I will be reading this thread while I'm focused on getting units out - recently I've only skimmed the last few pages when time allows.

Now I'm going to bed as we have much to do tomorrow such as reprofling the IR reflow oven and Ministreamer firmware etc.

I cannot be everywhere for everyone, my primary focus now is production - I cannot help if may lack of attention upsets some people (I am sorry and its not my intention), but I ask you to please understand that I'm working towards the end goal we have all been waiting for :)

Hi John,

How about if you agree with community for example weekly update to PFM? I think no-one is waiting for daily updates or replies to every message, but project progress in overall is more important. But that is a process which you must commit or otherwise there is wild west here again.

Mmmmmm. Existing issues or new problems? See my earlier comment.

I have access to a prototype workshop that has a couple of cnc machines, if someone gives me a DXF file and quantity, I can get a quote.
