There was an interesting segment on Front Row (Radio 4) this evening with Martin Simpson talking and playing a few songs.

I think I first saw him in the Holywell Music Room in Oxford, Sadly not the occasion when he recorded a live album there.
It’s a fantastic small intimate venue and ideally suited to his style.

Used to go to the Rockingham Arms folk club most Fridays in the early 80s and caught Martin there. A superb gig that's still stuck in the memory.

I saw him live in a Hertford church a few years ago...

...I was wearing a Richard Hawley t-shirt and on seeing this Martin said "Nice One!" :-

Came across this on a free Uncut CD which is really nice:

Looks like a gritstone quarry, anyone know where it is?

I had the pleasure of twice being in an audience of 20 seeing him play at my 6th form school 38 (christ...) years ago. He was a mate of one of our teachers. 90 minutes of great guitar playing and cool stories. Brilliant.

From the blurb underneath the video on Youtube:

"Taking to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, at Pennistone Hill, Haworth, Anna, Deborah and filmmaker John Slemensek-Thorne of Studio Bokego the creative team crafted a narrative inspired by the lyrics and beautiful phrasing of Martin's song "
