JBL L100 revamped....

Blame Altec. The 4310 of which the L100 is a domesticated version, was voiced to sound similar to the Altec 604 which JBL aimed to dislodge from its almost ubiquitous popularity(the 4310 was smaller).
I have a pair of Urei 811As, which are Altec 604 based, and a pair of very well fettled JBL 4410s (the series after 4310s, and which I think is better).
Apart from the size advantage, there is IMHO no contest, good though the JBLs are.

I remember the originals of these, the lovely pastoral colours were so innovative at the time. Linn recently launched their speaker socks, I wonder where they got the idea?

Surely this is the future for domestic speakers. No more producing them in different colours (unless someone wants a wood veneer), and small imperfections won't be an issue. The customer can change the colour whenever they need to, or whenever they redecorate. Easier for the customer who has bought a specialist fancy colour to sell them on, as the colour won't be an issue as the buyer can buy whatever colour sock they like.

But have you SEEN them in the flesh? Yech.

Am I the only one who thinks this retro trend is getting old? What next? Chest hair? John Player Specials?

Why didn't they make them active and equip them with Bluetooth?

Do Linn employee cats as engineers?

I haven't. I'm not necessarily saying they look great to me or you. Most of us who have an interest in this hobby tend to prefer something more ugly as it generally sounds better, but surely something like this could draw more people into the hobby, or at least get hi-fi into more homes that is currently possible with shiny black boxes. This sort of approach could bring in a new audience as it's more 'furniture like', and people buy a hell of a lot more furniture than they do hi-fi...

Certainly true of a lot of women I've met when we've gone shopping in John Lewis.
