HiFi Lounge - All Our Latest News, PMC, Naim, Bryston, Rega amongst Many others!

Hi Everyone,

I think its fair to say that we are big fans of OPPO at HFL, especially the 105EU, not only is it a great Blu-Ray player but also a fantastic CD, SACD, DVD-A player as well as a great streamer, a true universal player.

Well today OPPO have just announced that the 105EU will shortly be available in silver, which looks quite stunning I have to say, normally I always order black kit but the 105 looks seriously like a premium product in the silver finish, very nice.

Available late June, Early July, with initial stock levels expected to be quite low so if you are interested please give me a ring to place an order to get to the front of the queue.

Hi Everyone,

Being that we love our vinyl at HFL I am really pleased to be able to add Koetsu cartridges to our line-up of brands, Koetsu offer some of the most respected and highly sought after cartridges in the world today which are held in great esteem and are loved by many audiophiles all over the world, many saying that they are the best available at any price. The founder of Koetsu, Yoshiaki Sugano, passed away in 2002 at the age of 95, but not before grooming his son to carry on the art of producing Koetsu Cartridges which are all hand made using some of the finest materials available and only produced in small numbers, the attention to detail really is something else, meaning that we still get to enjoy Koetsu cartridges today. If you want to experience the realism of Vinyl then Koetsu is the choice of many vinyl aficionado’s around the world.

Koetsu cartridges certainly are not cheap, and they are probably not the most revealing pickups out there, but they do something magical unlike any other cartridge, if you want to experience real warmth, texture and smoothness without a hint of brightness to your vinyl then Koetsu could be for you, Koetsu cartridges have a timbral richness with a clarity and presence that just makes everything sound real and you can’t ask for more than that. All Koetsu’s are hand made in small numbers many using precious materials which all adds to the mystery of Koetsu and why many people would not own any other cartridge than a Koetsu.

If you would like any more information please get in touch or follow the link below to browse the Koetsu range of cartridges, my personal favourites are either the Bloodstone or Jade Platinum, a snip at £7400 each.

And now for something a little Different :)

I know that this won’t be for everybody and I could well end up sitting on my own all day but I thought I would mix 2 of my loves, HiFi and Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band to create an open day with a difference.

Some of you may well know that I’m a little bit of a Bruce fan, 70+ gigs since my first one on July 4th 1985, (that first Bruce gig really did change my life and gave me a real appreciation of live music) also managed to book 8 so far for this year, the Wembley Stadium show last weekend went straight into my top 3 shows, amazing night, there really is nothing better than a Bruce gig.

Anyway the idea is that we have got some real reference kit at HiFi Lounge so why not use it to showcase who I consider to be the best singer, songwriter and live entertainer the world has ever seen, yes I think it is fair to say that it will be a slightly biased day :) So on August 10th HiFi Lounge will be holding our first Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band Appreciation day :)

It is at the early stages of planning at the moment, needless to say it will be a mini Bruce festival with nothing other than Bruce being played all day through our reference HiFi system consisting of the awesome £16,100 PMC MB2 SE speakers and also using over £60,000 worth of Bryston and Naim electronics to power them, the new award winning Rega RP8 turntable will be spinning some Bruce vinyl, so it really will be a great opportunity to hear Bruce on some top kit, we will also power up the JVC X55 Projector for some live footage of the boss in action on our 120” screen.

I am thinking that we will play 2-3 albums in their entirety, if I have my way it will be E-Street Shuffle and Asbury Park to start with, then we could maybe do a couple of hours or requests, then fire up the Projector for some of our favourite Bruce live and video moments, I will work out a timetable and put it up nearer the time, if anyone has any ideas please let me know, but be warned I could see it going on late into the evening.

It goes without saying that if you have any rare material you’d like to hear or think anyone else would like to see or hear please feel free to bring it along, and if by some fluke the sun comes out we can open up the gardens to give everyone a chance to mingle and swap Bruce stories, saying that I can’t remember the last hot and sunny outdoor Bruce event I went to so I guess it will be safer to expect rain.

So as you can see this is a total indulgence on my part but with Bruce doing some of the best shows of his life at the moment and with the iminent release of the movie ‘Springesteen and I’ I thought it would be a great time to hold this open day and a great way to ease the blues of the European tour being over and discuss the various highlights we all had from the Wrecking Ball tour, I’m still buzzing from hearing ‘Lost In a FLood’ live, and to talk about any other Bruce stories we may have, like when I met him in London a couple of years ago for the showing of ‘The Promise’, actually we could show ‘The Promise’ if anyone would like to see it.

On the off chance that anyone would like to come can you please e-mail me on [email protected] with any other ideas so I can get an idea of what everyone would like the day to entail that would be great.

If we can make this a success then it would be great to think that it could possibly become a yearly event, but for now please put August 10th in your diary as it would be great to see any other fellow Bruce fans at HiFi Lounge for our appreciation day.

Cheers,

BBBRRRUUUUUUUUCCCEEE :)

Hi all,

Yesterday was the dealer Launch event of PMC's new Fact.12 speaker and was of the usual high standard you would expect from PMC, held at the Luton Hoo Hotel which is a pretty spectacular place, all the more so being that it is in Luton, I really never knew it existed, apparently is is used a lot for film locations, pic below -

As for the Fact.12's what can you say, they are spectacular, I was speaking to Olly, who is Peter Thomas's son and the lead designer, top bloke btw, and he has further tweaked them since I heard them at Munich, mainly playing with the crossover, they don't sound massively different but he is now happy with his work and has signed them off so production is now up and running :smashin:

The basic design brief was to design a IB2 sound in a much smaller cabinet, no pressure there then :) and to my ears I would say that PMC have done just that, the smaller mid range which is a re-design on the PMC75 sounds equally as impressive as its bigger brother but it is the bass that really astounds, I really believe there has never been a speaker like the Fact.12 before, can't wait to get my hands on mine :)

We also played around with the treble and bass lift and minus with a couple of tracks and in the room we were in you could really hear the difference, more so than I have heard with the Fact.8's before for some reason, I particularly liked the bass on the - setting as it really helped throw the vocal into the room as the mid range came across a lot cleaner, but as PMC said there is no correct setting, they are all correct, it is just which setting the customer prefers or if they need to be tuned to a particular difficult room it can really help.

Here are a couple of pics of the 12's in the Tiger Ebony, on the 8's this wasn't my favourite finish but for some reason they looked quite stunning on the 12's, sorry for the low quality pics.

So to sum up I really think PMC have created something quite special with the Fact.12, basically an amazingly high end speaker that sounds phenomenal and doesn't dominate the room like a IB or MB but gives similar performance.

I have just arranged with PMC to do a Fact.12 Launch event at HiFi Lounge on August 3rd, I will post more details shortly.

Hi Everyone,

I am really excited to announce that Astell&Kern have now joined our portfolio of brands meaning that we can now offer high end audio on the move and I am really pleased that both players work fantastically well with a large selection of the headphones that we offer meaning that MP3 and cheap earbuds are now a thing of the past for the real music enthusiasts who like to experience high quality music whilst on the move.

As many of you will know Astell&Kern are the premium branch of portable device specialists iriver and their aim is to bring high end audio playback to the portable market with their range of players. Offering the ability to play all audio formats but most importantly able to playback Mastering Quality Sound up to 24-bit, 192Khz thanks to the high end Wolfson Dacs that are found in some of the highest quality HiFi around. With the Analogue volume control, the ability to add more storage via micro SD cards, the intuitive touch screen, the brushed aluminium finish and the ability to use them as external DACS plus they can drive some of the best full size headphones available, all meaning that at long last we now have a range of portable players for the real music enthusiast.

It was only when I went on holiday recently and took my iPod that I realised actually how poor the sound quality was and that I now have a large 24-bit library that I couldn’t play so that led me to the Astell&Kern players. These really are a revolution in portable music, not only do they look and sound stunning they are also able to drive a selection of high end headphones, especially the AK120 with its twin Wolfson DACS which can drive the best from Sennheiser and Audeze amongst others. These players really do offer high end audio in your pocket like has never been heard before.

We have both the AK100 and AK120 on permanent demo So why not pop in to HFL to hear how amazing portable music now sounds when played through the Astell&Kern range of portable players, please follow the link for more information -

This is just a quick post to say that my friends PMC EB1i's that I am trying to help him sell are still available and he has now lowered the price to £4000.

Please either ring me on the number below or PM me if you are interested.

Thanks.

I know I posted this in a separate post but to keep things together I thought I would add it my general news thread as well -

To mark Rega’s 40th year, they will be starting the celebrations by offering a ‘limited edition’ turntable based on the RP3, the RP40 Anniversary Edition.

This turntable will only be available during 2013 and built to a limited number of units with its own set of serial numbers.

The RP40 will be supplied with a custom TT-PSU, exclusive Silicon drive belt and Elys40 cartridge as standard.

RP40 WILL BE AVAILABLE IN TITANIUM FINISH ONLY

RP40 ANNIVERSARY – INCLUDING TTPSU AND ELYS40 AS STANDARD

It really is quite beautiful making it the ultimate incarnation of the RP3, please see the PDF and pictures below. Please note that these pictures are only a model and not a working example, note that the cartridge is missing a stylus as an example, it is just to give us an idea of what the finished product will look like, looks good to me :)

We are taking orders now for anyone who is interested, being that this is a limited edition turntable I can’t see it being available for long. It will be priced at £798.00 and will be on a first come first served basis with production starting mid August.

Rega RP40 turntable

Thanks,
Paul.

Thought I'd do the same with the Naim news released this week regarding the new Nait range.

HiFi Lounge are excited to announce that Naim have introduced 3 new products to their range, well as Naim have rightly said it is more of an evolution of 3 of their core and most popular products, the Nait range of Integrated amps, please see more information and pictures below, needless to say that all 3 new products will be on demo shortly at HiFi Lounge so please ring for more info and to book a demo.

2013 marks the 40th year since Naim was officially incorporated in 1973. To help celebrate this landmark event they have reinvigorated and relaunched what is perhaps their most iconic range of products - the NAIT integrated amplifiers. The new NAIT 5si, NAIT XS 2, and SUPERNAIT 2 benefit from technological breakthroughs gained from thousands of hours of development time to offer significantly increased sound quality over their predecessors.

Since the original NAIT of 1983 the range has come to encapsulate the Naim philosophy like no other product. It’s a philosophy that values simplicity and focus, emphasising musical performance above all other concerns. It says that hi-fi exists only to heighten the thrill and emotion of listening to music. Today, the new and improved NAIT 5si, NAIT XS 2 and SUPERNAIT 2 are the evolution of these core principles.

NAIT 5si is the ideal introduction to the Naim sound. It features an improved power supply, delivers 60 Watts per channel (into 8ohms) and features a new 1/4" (6.35mm front panel headphone output. Improved components throughout and a revised electronic design result in significantly enhanced performance. Despite its entry-level status the NAIT 5si packs a heavyweight punch when it comes to sound quality.

Nait XS 2 features a 70 Watts per channel (into 8ohms) power amplifier. Like the NAIT 5si it features upgraded components throughout, a revised electronic design and a new 1/4" (6.35mm) front panel headphone output. It has a full Naim preamplifier section which doubles as a Class-A headphone amplifier.

SUPERNAIT 2 also features an improved power supply, revised electronic design, upgraded components and a new 1/4" (6.35mm) front panel headphone output. At 80W per channel it remains powerful enough to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers. Its full Naim preamplifier section doubles as a Class-A headphone amplifier and is further improved with the introduction of NAIM DR (Discrete Regulator) technology. Its input sockets are now all individually decoupled and hand-wired to maximise fidelity and take integrated amplifier performance to new heights.

Hi Everyone,

Well it has certainly been a big couple of weeks for Rega what with them starting to ship their new Aria switchable phono stage and Elicit-R integrated amp but also announcing that their reference, money no object, Naiad Turntable will go into production later this year to mark their 40th anniversary in style, costing an estimated £30,000, more about this later though as this really is big news.

At the more affordable end of the hifi spectrum HiFi Lounge are really pleased to now have the new Aria and Elicit-R on demo, I have been listening to both new products today and can only say great things about them. The Aria is a clear step up in clarity and detail compared to the Rega Fono MM Mk11 when using our Rega RP6 with Dynavector 10x5 cartridge, housed in a half width case to match the DAC and Brio-R this is not only a fantastic sounding and well built phono stage it also caters for both MM and MC cartridge types with all the usual loading settings being adjustable round the back of the Aria, I really think that this is now the perfect partner for the RP6 and above not to mention any other turntables.

As for the Elicit-R the first thing you notice is the sheer weight of it, this is one solidly built amp with beautifully finished case work that reminds me of the Rega Reference Series kit, look round the back and the use of high end components are clear to see. The new Solaris remote is also worth mentioning as it now incorporates all the buttons needed to control all the Rega electronics and fits nicely in the hand. The Elicit-R really impresses before you even power it up but once it is turned on it the news continues to just get better, it is a very capable amp with plenty of power rated at 100w per channel but it is its overall sound that impresses the most, clean, detailed, fast but always musical, I really don’t know how Rega have done it for £1598, there really can’t be anything else out there at anywhere near the Elicit-R’s price that can compete, I must admit to have been very impressed with the Elicit-R, I really can’t wait to spend some more time listening to it during the coming weeks with a variety of different speakers and sources, the amount of systems you could build around the Elicit-R is quite an amazing proposition which makes me all the more excited to get my hands on the new Rega Saturn-R CD Player due anytime soon.

Like I say we now have both the Aria and Elicit-R on permanent demo along with the full range of Rega turntables and other electronics so please feel free to come in for a listen.

For more information please check out below -

Hi Everyone,

I’m really excited to announce that HiFi Lounge have just taken on a new speaker brand called Magnepan, most of you have probably heard of them before but I had only read about them on the Bryston AudioCircle forum in the past as many Bryston owners in the States run Bryston Power with Magneplanar speakers. So I contacted the distributor in the UK and they sent a couple of pairs for me to try, to say I was impressed was an understatement, firstly here is a little info on Magnepan for those who don't know the brand.

Magnepan are based in Minnesota, USA and have been manufacturing their magneplanar speakers since 1969 when engineer Jim Winey came up with the idea. Situated in a 50,000 square foot facility Magnepan have so far sold over 200,000 pairs of their speakers worldwide, also affectionately known as ‘Maggies.

Maggies are considered by many to be high end speakers that are actually affordable with many top HiFi journalists who are accustomed to listening to very high end speakers owning Magneplanar speakers. Basically they are a panel speaker meaning that the voice coil of a conventional speaker is stretched out over a Mylar film sheet which when amplified excites the Mylar film to create sound, being that there is no cabinet they offer a very clean and revealing sound, with great detail, finesse and speed, being considered by many to be the closest you can get to that live sound especially as they are a dipole design meaning that they fire out the same sound from behind as from the front giving a very big soundstage.

What really surprised me was the level of low frequency these 2" deep panels could produce as I had always read that panels can’t do bass, ok they won’t rattle the windows but there is more than enough bass and it is a very musical bass with loads of detail. The only drawback that I can see with Maggies is that they are not the most efficient speaker so they do need quite a lot of power, and they do need some room around them being that they are a dipole design, oh yeah, and they are not the smallest speakers.

We have both the Magneplaner 12’s and 1.7’s on demo, so if you have never heard a Maggie before please feel free to pop in. I can guarantee that when listening to the 12’s you have never heard a £1500 speaker sound so good, these really are incredible value. The 12’s work brilliantly well with the new Rega Elicit-R amp making a fantastic package that won’t break the bank. The when you go up to the 1.7’s again you won’t believe the performance for the price at £2500.

Personally I really want to hear the 3.7’s and 20.7’s now, they really must sound quite amazing. We will be holding a Maggie open day before the end of the year is out and I have arranged for the 3.7’s to come down to HiFi Lounge which I can’t wait for.

So if you have never heard a ‘Maggie’ before then you really should come in for a listen as they are very different in their presentation compared to a conventional box speaker, they offer amazing clarity and insight into a recording as there is no cabinet to affect the sound, In the world of HiFi they are considered by many to be an absolute bargain especially when you hear the level of performance you get, so please pop in to HFL experience something a little different.

Please follow the link to see the whole range of Maggies on our website -

Hi Everyone,

Well with only a few days to go until our Bruce Springsteen day I thought I would outline what the plan is, basically the idea is that we will run Bruce footage upstairs in the main demo room on the 120" screen, maybe take a break and play some vinyl, and in the downstairs demo room we will have Bruce music blasting out all day on some quality hifi.

It will be a very relaxed event so I can put on what anyone wants to hear or see to be honest, on the video front we have the following lined up, if anyone wants to bring anything else along please feel free -

Live in Dublin (Blu Ray)

London Calling (Blu Ray)

Live in Barcelona

Blood Brothers

Story Tellers

Live In New York

Video Anthology

The Promise

Making Of Born To Run

Hammersmith Live 1975

So that should keep us busy, better make it a 2 day event :)

I just want to make it a celebration of the Wrecking Ball tour which I really believe is the best Bruce Tour I have ever seen since I started going in 1985, luckily I managed to get 13 shows in over the last 12 months, got severe withdrawal symptoms now though :-(

We will kick off around 9am till whenever everyone has had enough.

The BBQ for last weekends PMC event seemed to go down well so fingers crossed that we get another sunny and dry weekend for Bruce and a BBQ, what more could you want :)

To get everyone in the mood here are a few pictures and videos that I took up close and personal from Cardiff, Leeds and the Kilkenny end of tour shows a few days ago, remember to set YouTube to HD to see them in all their shaky hi res glory -

In preparation for our Bruce day this Saturday I have been very busy getting creative, not sure everyone has seen this, it's called Art Vinyl, the idea being that you use your vinyl collection for wall art, the beauty being that you can swap it over as often as you like, so here we have 'The Wall Of Bruce' :)

Hi All,

Well I will either get dragged away by the men in white coats for this or by Bruce’s lawyers but amazingly we now have Bruce in the building for the build up to our Bruce Springsteen day this weekend, the weather is looking good by the way so the BBQ should be getting plenty of use :)

I decided to give Bruce the guided tour of HiFi Lounge, he was very quiet to be honest but I think he was impressed, it is amazing that in real life he looks just like he does on stage, guitar in hand giving it a 100%, anyway he has decided to stick around for the weekend so if you are coming along you’ll be able to meet him, like I say though he seems a bit shy so you may not get much of a conversation out of him, he’ll just let his music do the talking :)

Anyway here are a few pics of Bruce at HiFi Lounge -

I thought I could hear someone at the font door.

if you'd really like to see some more pictures they are here -

http://hifilounge.tumblr.com/post/57695382883/look-whos-just-popped-in

Well there you go, yep, maybe I should get out more and I probably have got too much time on my hands at the moment but it isn’t everyday you get Bruce in your hifi shop :) I’m actually putting it down to be stuck in this building on my own day after day, I think its sending me a bit crazy.

Anyway, back to reality, just been sorting out my Bruce music collection, yesterday I managed to get the audio for most of the shows that I went to over the summer, just reliving the amazing show that was Cardiff, pretty good sound quality, I have got so much Bruce music and video it is going to be difficult to know what to play so we will just see how the day goes.

Hope to see you at the weekend,

Cheers,

Paul.

P.S, normal service will be resumed next week when I've got some exciting new Brands to announce that are joining us for our 2nd year.

Hi All,

I spent a couple of hours last night going through all my Bruce footage trying to figure out a running order for the cinema room for tomorrow, it’s amazing how much material you gather over the course of nearly 30 years, We could almost run several Bruce days like a concert footage day, a documentary day, a vinyl day, a request day, we could just do a Bruce open day once a month, needless to say I think this could be the first of many :)

Anyway this is what I thought could work, obviously it is open to change but I thought it would at least be a good idea to start with a plan then we can see where the day takes us –

8.30 – The Video Anthology 1978-2000

11.00 – Hammersmith Odeon 1975 Live

12.30 – Live at the Ahmanson Theatre Los Angeles 1973 (3 Songs) Thundercrack and Wild Billy’s Circus are just amazing.

1.00 - Superbowl Show 2009 – I watched this again last night, it really is a Bruce show in 12 mins.

1.15 - BBQ With Hard Rock Calling 2009 Playing

During the afternoon we can do requests, whether that be vinyl, a favourite song, more video as I’d really like to watch the ‘Wings For Wheels The Making of Born To Run’ or ‘The Promise The Making Of Darkness On The Edge Of Town but we’ll just see how things go.

Downstairs we will have music streaming all day from a mix of concert material and officially released albums.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow for what I hope will be a fun day celebrating the greatness of Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band :)

Hi to all the fellow Bruce Springsteen fans who came to our Bruce day on Saturday.

I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who attended, it was great to see such a great turnout, there is nothing better than watching Bruce video’s all day with like minded fans then swapping stories of gigs attended and just generally sharing Bruce stories, great fun :)

Being that this was always going to be a bit of an experiment to see if anyone actually came it has now given me the confidence to plan similar days, an Elvis day was recommended, also a Led Zeppelin day, personally I would love to do a Bowie or Radiohead day but I think the next one will be the showing of the new movie Springsteen and I, as I was desperate to see this when released last month but with its limited release and also being shown in the middle of the tour, when I was travelling round the country, I totally missed it so once out on Blu Ray will do have another Bruce day with maybe 2 showings throughout the day, once I know the release date I will put a date together.

Thanks again to everyone who came along on Saturday, hope to see you at HiFi Lounge again in the not too distant future.

Here are a couple of Pictures from the weekend -

Hi Everyone,

Over the last couple of months I have been putting together the final few brands that I have always wanted to offer our customers at HiFi Lounge.

The final piece in my Speaker line up is now complete as at HiFi lounge we are really pleased to now be able to offer Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers to our customers, meaning that we now offer what I feel is a stunning line-up of some of the most respected speaker brands on the planet.

Our final line up now consists of PMC Speakers, Sonus Faber, Martin Logan, Magnepan, Spendor as well as Rega speakers offering a very diverse mix of different speakers, all offering different technologies and presentations, something for everyone hopefully.

Here is a little more information on Martin Logan -

Martin Logan was formed by Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland who met in the late 1970’s and were both determined to design an electrostatic speaker that would work in a domestic environment, produce adequate bass with wide dispersion. Many prototypes later they deputed their Monolith electrostatic speaker at the consumer show in the US to much acclaim and have never looked back since. Based in Kansas, US, Martin Logan are now the leaders in Hybrid Electrostatic design, the main challenge with an electrostatic speaker is producing bass without the speaker looking like a barn door, as the bass is dictated by the panel size, so Martin Logans solution was the hybrid design, meaning they use an Electrostatic panel paired with a conventional cone speaker for bass duties, resulting in a stylish electrostatic speaker with amazing clarity and insight but with powerful bass.

At HFL we are really excited to offer Martin Logan speakers, if you like to hear everything in a recording there really is nothing like the sound of an electrostatic speaker, they are extremely agile, offering a very clean and transparent presentation. Being a hybrid design there is also plenty of bass, an electrostatics main problem, but in a speaker that isn’t overly big and looks extremely stylish. Also offering subwoofers and surround packages Martin Logan really offers something for everyone so please pop into HFL to experience something a little different.

We will have the Electromotion Electrostatics which start at £2500 on permanent display plus the Amazing Montis Electrostatic speakers which start at £9800, so offering something at both ends of the Martin Logan spectrum, there are 3 further models that sit between the ElectroMotions and Montis plus the Summit X and CLX Art that sit above the Montis. I can borrow any of these from the distributor if required so we can offer the full range of Martin Logan speakers for demo, personally I would love to hear the CLX Arts, not small but supposedly offer amazing performance, although I think I would struggle to get them in the building.

If there is anything in the Martin Logan range you’d like to listen to please don’t hesitate to get in touch, here are a couple of pictures of the un-boxing of the Electromotions, My Montis demo pair are winging their way over from Kansas as we speak so I will post some pictures as soon as they arrive, please also see a link to Martin Logan on our website -

Hi Everyone,

Over the last few years headphones have become a real passion of mine, it is a great way to enjoy your music and in high end audio terms you can get the very best for not totally silly money, so I am really pleased to announce that Beyerdynamic have joined our line up of headphones and headphone amps that we now have on display.

Beyerdynamic are one of the oldest audio companies trading today, they were formed in 1924 by Eugen Beyer and has remained a family run business ever since. Their first products were loudspeakers but in 1937 they developed their first pair of dynamic headphones which they are arguably best known for nowadays. Although Beyer offer a massive selection of headphones it is their high end models with their cutting edge Tesla technology that we are most excited about. All hand built in Germany and offering the ultimate in comfort we offer the full Tesla range on demo along with their audiophile headphone amps. Whether it is open, closed or semi open back, home or portable, Beyer offer something for everyone. Please pop in today to experience Beyerdynamic headphones in the comfort of our dedicated headphone room.

I’ve got a couple more headphone brands that are joining the fold shortly so I will announce them in the next few days then I feel that we have a pretty much unrivalled line up of the best headphones and amps that are available anywhere today.

In the meantime here is a link to Beyerdynamic on our website and a couple of pics -

Hi all,

I hope everyone has had a good bank holiday weekend, I just spent the bank holiday Monday installing loads of new Naim kit for demo at HFL, so a fantastic day :)

Ever since hearing the Naim NDS network player around 8 months ago and being blown away, it really is the best digital source I have ever heard, I have been working towards adding one to my Naim demo stock, so I am really pleased to say that we now have the NDS/555PS combo at HiFi Lounge for demo, I have just been listening to it hooked up to the new PMC Fact.12’s and I have to say I don’t think I have heard a better combination of kit, they are almost made to go together, fantastic soundstaging with loads of detail but presented in a smooth, almost analogue way by the NDS that is just so engrossing.

So as we are fast heading towards our first year of trading I thought it was a good opportunity to dismantle my Naim Fraim for a good clean before year 2 commences, I really recommend this as I was amazed how dusty my rack had become, plus what with changing all the kit around regularly for demos it is a good chance for a cable tidy up. So after a few hours of pulling the Fraim apart the NDS/555PS now has a nice clean and shiny new home.

As well as adding the NDS/555PS to demo I also went for a NAP 300 power amp, basically because the PMC Fact.12’s are such amazing speakers I felt that although the NAP 250 was doing a pretty good job, the NAP 300 could really make them sing, and after being mesmerised today after a few hours listening, sorry I mean testing, I think it is fair to say that this Naim/PMC combo really is something quite special.

Also we now have the new Naim SuperNait 2, Nait XS 2 and Nait 5si integrated amps on demo, so something for everyone + we have added the Naim UnitiServe to our demo stock to show how easy it is with Naim to rip your cd’s and join the streaming party.

As ever I couldn’t resist taking a few pics of the daunting task of dismantling my Naim Fraim, when I woke up this morning I really did wonder if it was such a good idea but now it is all back together and sounding better than ever it really is a job well done.

The before photo.

Some of the new Naim Kit waiting for action.

What have I done, will it ever work again.

Looking good, and very clean and shiny :)

Everything back together, and sounding better than ever.

There is just one piece of hifi missing from that rack, all being well it will be with me tomorrow, I have been waiting even longer for it than the NDS so it can’t come quick enough, I will post some pics when it is with me.

Seriously though if anyone wants to come in to listen to the NDS/555PS combo please feel free, personally I can’t wait to spend some more time listening to it.

Thanks,

Paul.
