Help Identifying a Transistor

Guys, your help please. I'm having a go at repairing a model railway controller for my father. It's a DIY kit of c. 1970's/1980's.

I'm reverse engineering the circuit as the kit paperwork is lost. There are a number of similar transistors on the board and I'm having real trouble identifying them. The only identifying marks are the numbers "4286" on the flat top of the package. The package is a very slim but long D type. Dimensions are 2mm across the flat face of the "D", 2mm from top of package to the lead side and 5mm from flat of "D" to rounded edge.

Thanks!

Duncan
