Favourite line from a song

I love this middle part from Lynn Andersons rendition of Rose garden:-

I could promise you things like big diamond rings,
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover.
So you better think it over.
Well, if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true,
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter,
But what would it matter?
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

"I was afraid I'd eat your brains"
People sometimes miss how funny some of Matt Berninger's lyrics for the National are.

He doesn't present them in a funny way, more like he is just a bit of the scale of what could be called normal. I love it.

Slow Emotion Replay - The The

perfect...

Morrisey is one of the most original songwriters to emerge since the days of punk.

And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

There were times when I could
Have "strangled" her
(But you know, I would hate
Anything to happen to her)

I would go out tonight
But I haven't got a stitch to wear
This man said "it's gruesome
That someone so handsome should care"

These are some of the most emotive lyrics I know. Starting with Emmylou Harris's lament for Gram.

Well you really got me this time
And the hardest part is knowing I'll survive.

Another killer is 'Overtime' as sung by Lucinda Williams. It says even when you love someone who is far from perfect, the pain of the failed relationship is still very hard to bear.

Your pale skin, your sexy crooked teeth
The trouble you'd get in
In your clumsy way
Cuts me up.

The sky is cryin'....look at the tears roll down the street. Elmore James

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all

The piano has been drinking
my necktie is asleep
and the combo went back to New York
the jukebox has to take a leak
and the carpet needs a haircut
and the spotlight looks like a prison break
cause the telephone's out of cigarettes
and the balcony's on the make

Etc.

" SHE MOVED THE DISHES FIRST "

The group were Supercharge, from Liverpool. Late 70s.

My childish humour loved it then and having just found it again on You Tube, I have just loved it again. Great humour with catchy music. Whats not to like.

The Title of the song is the lyric I remember, but there are so many classic lines in that song.
