  2. Where we are now: The site is back up and running! The character set encoding issue has been fixed so old posts should now look ok. I am currently working on themes/skins etc and I will be deleting the temporary green skin very soon as it has many issues. I will do a very quick variation on the stock blue skin first just to get a light-grey background and san-serif font, and I will set this as default. Later this week I will hopefully add a professional third-party skin in pfm colours (life is way too short to do this crap myself, and I've found one I really like than needs next to no tweaking). We are getting there slowly...

  3. May I please request people check and update their email address if it is out if date. I ask as I’m getting countless bounce errors as the server fails to send notifications through etc. I’ll eventually figure out how to send these to a black hole somewhere, but it makes sense to address it at source as quite a few folk are obviously not getting the thread and conversations notifications they have set in their preferences.

  4. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

And yet, if it was a "designer" display shelving system from Harrods or some such we would not know of it nor care a jot.

Personally I would either discard any component that was so susceptible to vibration or, in the case of a turntable, put it in another room.

$31k is quite a lot for any table I would have thought.

I would imagine many here have spent much more over the years on hifi they no longer own.

Who is saying the thing eliminates vibration anyway, has anyone tested it, another utterly worthless piece of jewellery.
Mine cost me £15, as I said, cheapskate.

A good point. Do we have an over-arching belief that "hifi must be cheap", and that anything that costs more than £X (choose your figure here), must by default be overpriced or foo?

    Contrast:

"You've spend ten grand on the holiday of a lifetime? Wow, I bet you must have had a fabulous time!"

    or

"You've spend ten grand on a hifi? Oh, I couldn't tell the difference"

I dunno about you, I'm pretty good on sussing the difference between a fortnight in the Okavango Delta and a week at Butlins in Skegness. I don't find the differences between a pair of S/H Mission 753's and some box fresh Harbeth 40.2's, whilst evident, quite so catastrophically polarising.

They're all at it - Monaco have just come out with a 'new' (four-legged rather than three) version of their modular table. 4 tier version, yours for about $30k

I shopped around secondhand for the original version and have two 4-tier stands - they're very nice, light, stackable and don't seem to 'sound' of anything at all; cost me about £2k for the lot. The new version, pro-rata, would be £50k. Might be open to good offers :)

Really, audio has gone insane - they spouted a lot of guff about 're-tooling costs' with incomprehensible promotional verbiage straight out of Pseud's Corner (there's some blurb in the Stereophile coverage of CES on it).

even though "a mechanical engineer and specialist in aerospace vibrational control and control systems", mass and stiffness alone do not guarantee immunity from vibrations.

So to the point. The isolation will only be as good as the box that sit's on it. I would suggest that the moneys in the feet and the casing of the actual audio box, While I know that rack isolation is SO important, what's good for the goose may not be so great for the Gayndah correct?
