Django Bates

MarkW

Full Speed & Pagan
Over the last 30 years Django Bates has delivered consistently interesting work on horn and piano, is a gifted composer/arranger and a little irreverent.

The Beloved albums are superb. The new trio album on Ecm looks really interesting.

One of the UK's underappreciated good guys.

Just seems not to get much love around here.

I think he is great.

I thought he wrote some great, really interesting tunes in the Loose Tubes days, and I always loved it when he played tenor horn. He used to get in to some great interplay stuff with Iain ballamy and bill bruford, which I enjoyed.

i dont hear about him so much now, and dont really know what he is up to.

Hopefully still playing the horn and being irreverant, as you describe.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new trio album on ECM. He also features prominently on the new Anouar Brahem album on the same label, which is a stunner.
