Best POP song ever.

I don't think any performer(s) has ever amassed as great a collection of near perfect pop songs as Abba. Not even the Beatles can match them. In the 70s I thought they were irritatingly lightweight and uncool - these days I'm much less snobby.

Completely correct this but my choice would have to be 'God Only Knows' by The Beach Boys.

Late for work so will read the whole thread later. Did Madness get a mention yet? Did some great pop songs.

Oliver's Army for me 99% of the time.

I might possibly say Down in the Tube Station At Midnight or Going Underground on another day...

This is a wonderful piece of songwriting and could also be the most powerful pop song ever made, so it gets my vote.

Hi,

How about this banger by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.

Catchy, uptempo, a good dancer and great lyrics.

Sounds like a happy song but it's the opposite.

Dean

That song is probably my earliest memory: hearing my mum playing it aged maybe 2 or slightly less. She loves Motown and with that being the first music I remember it has a very deep place in my heart for me too.

Feargal Sharkey? Was he even born when that song was recorded?
