Attention Music Notaters

windhoek

The Phoolosopher
I recently composed a short piece of music on classical guitar as an expression of immeasurable fondness for someone of whom I'm immeasurably fond and would very much like to give it to her in writing as it were. Alas my notation skills are quite modest and although I wrote it out by hand, I'd love to have a professional looking draft created by appropriate software with the help from a friendly fish located in or near Glasgow.

If anyone lives nearby and wouldn't mind giving up an hour or so, please let me know :)

I have used this to learn new songs, and it allows you to write your own. It'll play them back on a variety of instruments.

Sorry it's not quite what you asked for, but it might help.

Thanks vital. I downloaded a similar programme and although I've made some progress (the piece only lasts about 1 minute lol), my use of rests and quavers is incorrect, or my timing is, because the programme and I no longer agree on what it should look like. I need someone who's very fluent with music notation and notation software to get me over the line because I want it to look as professional as possible.

I'm not sure what that is exactly, but no matter what, I need help to make sure my notation is correct as well as get it printed off via PC software.

Not an expert at all but we've used http://musescore.org/ to transcribe something with modest success. The software will play it back for you, so you could be reasonably confident that what you'd written was what you were hearing.

I cant help at all with software or transfering it to a computer etc, but may be able to help with notation.

You say that your use of rests and quavers is incorrect. You may be writing the note lengths or rest lengths incorrectly, which is confusing the programme that you are using.

Have a look at this regarding notation of rests. Are you ok with this stuff?

Just think of it as arithmetic. The total note values in each Bar HAS to add up to the correct total.

So, in a bar of 4/4 time, there will be 4 beats. each of these could be sub divided.

so for example, a bar comprised of a crotchet, two quavers, eight semi quavers is correct.

You need to examine each bar of what you have notated, and check it all adds up to the correct amount.

ie a bar with the equivalant of 9 quavers will confuse the programme you are using.

good luck

I tried to create my own music sheet via Musescore, but just couldn't get it to make sense and I now know why; there are a couple of bars in the middle that only make sense when the time signature is changed from 4/4 to 3/4, doh! I'll give it another go later and hopefully I'll be able to make it work this time, fingers crossed :)

I finally finished creating a music sheet of my short and simple piece called Mon dooz arc-en-ciel, pour Susie (My sweet rainbow, for Susie). It's not quite complete because I wanted to add symbol for gentle vibrato, but couldn't find it, so it'll have to do as it is. Anyway, I took a screen grab and here it is. Fwiw, it's played on classical guitar :)

I forgot to add an arpeggio symbol at the chords, so if anyone decides to play it, the chords should be played arpeggio with the exception of those in bars 19, 20 and 23.

Below is a link to a rough video recording of the music. Apologies for the waffly intro because I forgot the name of the music and how it's play with regard to the the instructions set out on the sheet, doh! Anyway, bon apetite :)
